Vegas Reception

Trying to help my best friend plan her wedding.  She's getting married at 6:00p.m. at the Valley of Fire, but has nothing planned for a reception.  She has a VERY limited budget and doesn't have a need for a traditional or formal reception, but since neither of us live in Vegas we're struggling to come up with ideas.

She's going to have about 40 guests and "home base" is the MGM.  We would love some suggestions.  Budget friendly suggestions.  Can't emphasize the budget enough.

Thanks.

Re: Vegas Reception

  • look at vegasgroom.com hes got some great suggestions.
  • My budget is also tight.  I considered an in-suite reception, buffets and finally we decided on burgers at StripBurger; FI and I had our first vacay together in LV and ate here and loved it. They let us set our own menu (or they have a pre-set) but with a party that size (our size as well) you won't have the private room.  It doesn't bother us we didn't care about a traditional reception but wanted to treat our guests to good food and yummy cake.  After dinner we'll take our guests on the Double Decker bus tour where w'ell have our 'open bar'; we can buy beer etc at the store and guests can drink on the bus.    Check out my planning bio- it has a breakdown of budget and such.  I try to keep it updated.

  • In Response to Vegas Reception:

Since she might be getting back fairly late, what is she looking for?  I'm guessing she still wants to do dinner?

We are getting married at 6 pm also but have photos until 8 pm.  I booked a semi-private room at the Stratosphere buffet.  Dinner buffet is $20 a person and the room rental was $250.  Add in tax and gratuity.  We are just doing dinner, no dancing, any typical "reception" stuff.  For us, it was the least expensive way to go while still thanking our guests for coming.

Maybe she can check with the MGM and see if they can offer something just for dinner for her guests?  Have her mention it's just a group gathering, not a wedding, and it might be less expensive.

  • What is their budget?
  • Try Hussong's Cantina in the Mandalay mall; pretty reasonable rates for parties, even with booze.  I definitely encourage her to do something though; those 40 people coming to a destination wedding will likely have spent a lot of money to attend.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  She's definitely doing something, I'm just not sure what she's doing yet.
  • We are getting Married in January at 4:30pm and then have the DD bus for three hours afterwards, since were not overly fancy and really wanted something different.  Sometime along the way, we are stopping at McDonalds :) Cheeseburgers for all! Thats about all we have planned tho..no idea what to do after that.
