Davids Bridal Alterations

Has anyone used Davids Bridal for alterations? If so, what did you think of the work? About how much extra money did it cost? Thank you!

I used them in 2006 for my first wedding and the alterations were good but it cost as much as the dress did (~$500!!!).  It was a delicate top fabric, a-line, maybe 3 layers of fabric, no beading at the bottom, zipper back.

There's a lot of variables in alterations, of course.  I'm pretty short and Davids dresses are made for taller people.  Also, if you have a corset back, you probably won't need the waist taken in.  It's cheaper if you have fewer layers and if the fabric isn't super delicate.

Nowadays the dress I'm looking at from Davids comes in Petite.  I don't necessarily want to get one from them, but I can't get the dress out of my head and I haven't seen it anywhere else.  I'll have to try it on when the time comes.

The quality of their alterations varies greatly by location.  I had them do a simple bustle and take in the bust, which cost about $180 since the dress was lace over satin.  That also included fixing any snags in the lace, missing sequins, and popped seams, as well as pressing the gown.  It required only two fittings and I was very pleased with the results.  SSIL used a different location and had nothing but issues with their alterations department.

Unfortunately, most of the brides here are having DWs and get their alterations done locally, but you can also check sites like Yelp or Wedding Wire to try to get feedback on specific locations.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

It looks uneven in this photo but it was not when I put it on. I had mine done at the David's Bridal in Henderson on Marks St. She did a good job. My gown did not have a train but had many pickups and I could see the difficulty in making sure the hem was even. It was $150. I am a local and I often use Salvi's in Henderson. They do great work and I have used them many time for regular clothing, two expensive gowns, Ted Baker suit, and other items. I really like them and they also do emergency 24 hr alteration service. http://clothesmill.com or 702-492-2449. I agree that DB is dependent on location. I had a friend get a gown & alterations at the Sahara location and it was not perfect. I am short so I have to alter everything!

I can understand having the wedding dress done at David's but if you BM need alterations I suggest getting someone local. For my sisters wedding I bought my BM dress at Davids but they wanted 3x as much as what someone local would do it. I do know that if you do a second fitting and it still needs something fixed (ie you lost/gained weight) they'll do it one more time. Not sure how many locals will do that.

I bought my dress from DB and had the altertions there. Alterations were sooooo expensive!!!  It was almost $300 for mine.  I had a hem done, it was taken in on top, and then the bustle, which was pricey.  They did a great job, but wow on the price.

I had my dress altered there, and it was for the hem only. Cost $120, but I have a ballgown so the seamstress had to work with a lot of layers. Their alterations are kinda pricey so I agree with PP that if it's a BM dress just have it altered elsewhere, but if it's the bridal gown I would still have it done with DB because they know best to work with their own dresses.
