REVIEWS - Married 10/9

Hello!  I was married on 10/9/10 at Mandalay Bay.  I am not a frequent poster but you all were more helpful than you know so I wanted to pass along my reviews.  I’ll try to keep it shortJ

Mandalay
Bay Chapel – A
My coordinator was Richelle and she was pretty great.  I think I was fairly low maintenance; we mostly communicated (actually only) via email.  I knew from reading the boards that there is little communication until you are about 30 days out, which was totally true.  I sent her a picture of the bouquet I liked and it was identical.  On the day of the wedding, one of the girls came into the bridal suite and said they sent my bouquet back to floral because the lilies didn’t look right.  AT that point, I was so nervous that I didn’t care.  I later saw Richelle (right as I was about to walk down the aisle) and she said that she wanted to make sure it was perfect.  It was so hectic there that day, so it was nice that they paid attention to details.

Vista Suite/Premier All Inclusive – A+
We booked the Premier All Inclusive package before I had a chance to read everyone’s reviews of Masterpiece Cuisine.  At first I was upset because we could’ve saved some money, but when all is said and done, it was amazing.  When we got back to the suite, the food was set up beautifully (and tasted wonderful!), the cake was amazing, and we had a bartender as part of the package.  We tipped him so he hung out longer than he was supposed to, and left the alcohol for us.  The guests are still raving about the food and cake. As everyone else has said, the suite is amazing!  We decided to treat ourselves and stay for 4 nights.  The view was spectacular.  We had about 30 guests and there were no issues with the ipod dock, tv, or air.  It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Retro Bakery – A+
Again, after reading everyone’s reviews and checking out the flavors (maple bacon?  Come on!) we decided these were a must have.  I almost missed being able to order because they were booked solid for 10/10/10.  I just decided to have them delivered the day before.  They told me as long as I kept them wrapped they would be fine.  And they were!

Glam Squad – A++
What can I say – they were amazing!  From the first email to the day of, everything was perfect.  Initially, I only booked an appointment for myself because I didn’t want anyone to feel they had to spend the money.  In the end, everyone decided to have hair and makeup done.  They called me to confirm and were on time.  Esther (I believe) and her assistant showed up right at 9am and got started right away.  I gave her a picture of what I wanted and she replicated it exactly!  Believe me, I am VERY picky about updos and I couldn’t have been happier!  James came in an hour later, as expected, and got started on makeup.  He immediately put everyone at ease, talked to my mom about Bejeweled Blitz on facebook (I think there was even talk of friending each other), and told us stories about how he got into the business, etc.  I didn’t want him to leave!  I had airbrushed makeup and eyelashes – worth every penny.  I didn’t have to touch up my makeup once, except for lipstick.

Showcase Bridal (Etsy) – A
Since the floral through Mandalay was so expensive, I decided to go another route.  I found Bonnie of Showcase Bridal on etsy.  The 4 bridesmaid bouquets and they turned out beautiful.  She actually lives in Vegas so I opted to have her deliver to the hotel and save myself a box to ship.  The bouquets were exactly what I ordered.  Delivery was fairly easy.  Bonnie hit traffic so she was delayed for about an hour or so.

Last but not least – Photography

Jason James Skinner – A+ (so far)

This was my husband’s main job, since he is more into this than me.  We had a fairly short engagement (about 5 months) so the popular photographers on the board were all booked.  Needless to say, we started to get scared.  My husband came across Jason’s website, sent him an email and found that he was available.  From what I’ve found, only a handful of brides on the boards have used him so we didn’t have a lot to go on.  He and I communicated via email the weeks leading up to the wedding.  He was very responsive, had a lot of suggestions, and put me at ease.  We met him on Fremont Street the day we got in town for a mini photo shoot.  He was early and had clearly scouted the area since he had notes about the lighting for that time of day, etc.  He worked quickly because he knew we were so tired.    He was waiting for us outside of the Chapel on the wedding day and got started immediately.  I don’t think he stopped all day.  He shimmied on the ground, ran ahead of us, and was so patient all day!  Once we got to the reception I made him put down the camera and eat.  He ended up sitting with a bunch of my guests and was chatting away.  They all loved him.  He really worked hard to make sure he captured every moment.  When the sun went down, we left the reception with Jason to get more pictures on the strip.  Again, he was prepared.  He showed some of the pictures on his camera and they were amazing!  We don’t have everything back yet so I can’t comment on the quality just yet.  But I have full confidence they will be great.

I think this is it.  If anyone has questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.  I’m sorry this is so long!

Congrats!  And it's always great to hear about other vendors that aren't the "usuals" on the board!  Definitely come back and post your pictures once you get them!

Congratulations and thank you for the reviews. I just checked out your photographers website and WOW, his photo's are stunning, I will be eagerly awaiting yours, please let us know when you get them, I would love to see them. I am seriously considering booking him. Do you mind me asking what package you went with? Also was the mini shoot you did in Freemont the engagement shoot included in the packages? Thanks!

Our package was $1450.  We used Fremont Street as our "engagement" shoot (even though it was 2 days before the wedding).  It was just easier since we're out of town.  Basically Jason told us he wanted to use the engagement shoot so he can figure out what lighting and angles work best for us.  Definitely let me know if you use him and good luck!

I will definitely post my pics when we get them back :)

Yes that was the package I was looking at too. That's good to know you can have your "engagement" shoot so close to your wedding. We're in the UK so very out of town and won't be in Vegas until our wedding so it's good to know you can do that. We're not getting married until August 2012 so I'm sure you'll get your pics way before we even book anything, but I'm really glad you reviewed him and it's made me very excited about the possibility of booking him! I'll let you know and can't wait to see your pics! Thanks!
