Nevada-Las Vegas

Stess Free Vegas Please!!

This is a little long but I'll try and shorten it as much as I can!

I was planning a wedding and Ive been to wedding shows and was all excited, but I guess a lot of people around me are not. My mom is refusing to go to my wedding, my two close "friends" don't talk to me after I got engaged unless I make the effort to get in touch, and I think me and my FI would be paying for it all. (This is just the short version, smh)

So FI and I are really thinking about getting married in Las Vegas with those who do care. Maybe 10- 12 people, (some of them kids). I love your stories about having the wedding in a suite. So what is the best way to do this? Wedding in Suite then dinner at a restuarant? I'm not sure. On top of that I'm overwhelmed with the drama. I really need help!! Please and Thank You!

  • We had a small wedding (9 people including us) because that's what WE wanted. We had a beautiful ceremony at COF and then took everyone out for a nice dinner. I would do it over again, just the same way because for us, it was perfect. Everyone had a wonderful, enjoyable time.
    Good luck!
  • Hi and welcome!  Your're not being dramatic so don't worry.  FI and I decided on a Vegas wedding after a local wedding became too stressful and expensive.
  • Same here.  My FI and I were tired of justifying our wedding to to my family.  (they are totally in support of it, but since this is the 2nd marriage for both of us, my family was convinced it was a waste of time and money.  So Vegas here we come!!)  My FI and I are going with our two best friends and are getting ready to finalize plans with Chapel of the Flowers.  They provide everything you want and nothing you don't need.  And they are very reasonable.
  • Have you announced your Vegas idea to your family yet? If not, you might get even more drama, just a warning.
My mother flipped out on us when we told her, and I still haven't spoken to her. She might not come.

We chose Vegas because the Wedding Industry is out of control, and we didn't want to spend a year planning a wedding that would cost an outrageous fortune.
Getting married in Vegas, it seems, doesn't necessarily save a ton of money (you still get what you pay for), but we love the idea of paying for the casino-hotel wedding ceremony and reception packages and having a sensible wedding without tons of preparation. Since these casino-hotels do this everyday, I figure they are the professionals and buying a package will likely result in a decent ceremony & reception.
We're doing the chapel wedding + insuite reception. I like the idea of partying and making as much noise and mess as we want without worrying about on-lookers shaking thier fingers at us because we're disrupting their quiet dinner.

  • Welcome and congrats on your engagement :)

Some hotels offer special in-suite wedding ceremony packages.  Some people have their reception in their suite right after the ceremony.  You can have food brought in from a local restaurant or caterer (Masterpiece Cuisine, Fazoli's, Famous Dave's BBQ), or you can obviously go to a restaurant.  The Knottie list ("wedding porn") at the top of this board has a link to everyone's bios.  That should help!
  • Thanks knotties!

I'm loving the in suite reception idea. And I started looking at some of the packages from Chapel of the Flowers and FI is really liking them. Does anyone know any good suites I can get for a  reasonable price for the reception?

  • Ajzmommy, have you watched any of the ceremonies on COF website? That's what helped me make my decision.
  • I originally planned on getting married at chapel of the flowers but they charge $600 just for a copy of your photos and i was a little discouraged. Im getting married and i found La Bella Wedding Chapel which is at the new las vegas hilton and its beautiful!! The packages are a really good price and so far everyone has been prompt in responding to my questions. Also you can play your own music which is a big deal for me!!! We arent 100% sure where we are staying yet. Oh and also at the LVH they provide a courtesy limo so we will take a trip to the sign to have our photos taken, and then after at the LVH there is a bennihana so thats where we are going to eat and then go to a karaoke bar (we are big karaoke people) and then a club. We will have about 20 guests. REALLY inexpensive for a budget bride and i think it will be beautiful and a lot of fun!!
