March 2012 Weddings

For those of you with dogs

what do you plan on doing with them on your wedding day? For us, all of the sitters we trust are going to our wedding and staying the night at the hotel. were thinking about asking our neighbours but I'm nervous because they don't have a dog and I'm scared something will happen to her on our wedding day. I'll be calling home for checkups like 20 times that day! Just another stress. Also, who are you leaving them with during your honeymoon? We are leaving ours with my parents and I'm soooo nervous! We've left her there before when we've gone on vacation, but never for more than a week. I always have such anxiety when I leave her. I always worry about the worst -- her getting out or getting stepped on (she's only 3.5lbs!).

Re: For those of you with dogs

  • They're staying home.  FI's sister said she'd watch them for us.  I might hire a house sitter to come make sure she's actually taking care of them, otherwise I'm not too worried.  My dogs are small but hardy little boogers.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • Libby belongs to a camp. She goes to day camp once a week and she sleeps over about 2x a month. Its a pretty ridic place, where she gets bed time stories and letters home from every over night stay.
This place requires a referral, a 17 page application, an owner interview, a dog interview and a 1/2 day evaluation assement to be accepted. We pay yearly dues on top of her stays. Before we even walk in, they have Libby ready to come home. She is to the point they use her for interviews and evaluations. She is a favorite at camp canine!

    We are beyond dog crazy.

<div>Wow, really?  Places like that exist???</div><div>
</div><div>I used to work at a boarding facility that was really, really nice (best in San Diego County!) but we didn't do have this stuff!  People could pay for "snuggle time" but that pretty much just meant one of us would go into the kennel and take a 15 minute nap.</div>

Oh my gosh! That is pretty intense, but sounds fun!! :)

We're taking them to my parents the day before the wedding. They'll watch them over the weekend for 3 nights total - my parents aren't staying at a hotel the night of the wedding. We'll pick them back up on Sunday after our stay at the hotel.

Then, when we go on our HM a week later, they'll go back to my parents. Well, Lola goes to my FIL's and Lily goes to my parents. They treat them like grandchildren and spoil them probably just as much as we do. So, I'm not worried about leaving them. I do go through puppy separation anxiety towards the end of our vacations though. The longest we've been away is 9 nights, it will be 8 nights for the HM.

  • My parents are keeping my annabell.  They have a kennel and a dog house outside where they can keep her during the day while they are at work.
  • One of my co-workers is going to come to the house to watch our dogs. It's only for one night. Our dogs are totally fine on their own during the day, so she'll just come over to stay for the night. The big dilemma is whether we're going to have them in the wedding or not. We still haven't decided!

  • One of the 5th grade students at my school runs a little dog sitting business. She comes by two-three times a day and walks your dog, feeds them, and plays with them. She is also known to take them to the dog parks or to her house for doggy play dates with other dogs. Most of the teachers at my school use her (mainly because her mother is a teacher with us and we all know her personally). But she only charges $10 a day...which is much cheaper than boarding my dog for 10 days! And he will be much more comfortable being able to hang around my house instead of stuck in a cage all day...

  • We are going to be gone for about a week and a half.  And  most of our family will be gone with us for that weekend since it is a DW.  But FI's parents own a farm.  So they will be having a friend come over and feed the cows.  So we are going to leave our dog by their house and just let the family friend feed him.  He won't need water since he goes in and drinks with the cows :)

  • We are kenneling ours @ their vets office Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  My parents will be picking them up on Monday & keeping them while we are gone.  Everyone @ the vets office loves our dogs, so we know they will be spoiled.  My folks call them their "grandpuppies" & are wonderful with them!!  We are so lucky :)

I wish they had a puppy camp around here!!  That sounds like sooooo much fun!  I think our 2 would really enjoy that :)

  • Our 4 legged boys will be staying home...I'm going to a hotel the night before w/ my girls..and we'll get ready there. FI and my 2 legged boys will go to FMIL's house to get ready for the wedding. We're not leaving for a week and a half after the wedding, so FMIL is going to stay at our house with the 4 legged boys while we're on our HM...and she loves the time she gets to spoil her grandpuppies, and they love when grammy is there...just a thought, but since there are so many of us who have dogs, we should put up pictures of them, since for most, they are our babies :)

  • My in-laws will be staying at our house so they will watch them.  We're still working out our honeymoon.  Since we also have sugar gliders (tiny flying marsupials) we can't really board them.  I think I might as a BM to stay at my house for a week (it's closer to her job).

  • I still have to figure this one out. I would love to have someone stay at my house with them but the pickins are slim, so everyone I would trust with them will be at the wedding.  I called my vet and they recommended a kennel for the night, so we may just do that.

  • My dear friend (who I adopted Meela from and sold us her house) will be taking her. She has a Dog Grooming shop with an extra room so I'm not even the slightest bit worried. :) The longest I left her was actually when I had my surgery and was gone for 5 days. I about died. I missed her so much I would cry :(

  • We have a German Shepherd and I am beyond crazy about her. We won't be leaving our home to go to the ceremony until around 8. We are going to assign someone to come and check on her around 8pm, let her out and give her some treats and play with her, and then we will be home by 1130. So she' really won't be alone too much during the actual day of. We try our best to not leave her alone more than 4-5 hours at a time.

During our honeymoon my mom will travel down here and stay the week with her. I'm really not all too concerned since she'll be super spoiled. But I am concerned on how she is going to react with us not being there. She hasn't been away from me more than 4 days and away from FI at all since we got her.

  • Ours will be staying at home for both. They are outside dogs so it won't be a big deal the day of th wedding. Our neighbors will be feeing them and taking care of them for the honeymoon.

Though the pet we have to find someone to watch is the cat. I don't want to leave her alone the week we are gone. I believe I am going to check with one of our couple friends to see if they will watch her for us.
