Crisis Averted: FI's ring doesn't fit!

We got our rings in August.  Since then FI has lost 50 pounds.  I don't know why this occurred to me today but I got worried the ring didn't fit any more.  When he came home from work I made him try it on and my nightmare came true- it fell right off!  The ring is titanium and can not be sized.  I panicked and decided to call overstock, where the ring came from and see what if anything could be done.  I had little hope because it's been months but I figured it was worth a try.  When I called the operator said he would look into it.  When he came back to my shock he said I could return it for a smaller size!  I had forgotten that I had purchased the warranty and it covers ring resizing.  Since it can't be resized they will replace it for free.  Now tomorrow I have to send out the old one and within 3 weeks he'll have one that fits.   We dodged a bullet because we couldn't afford to replace it and we have the 3 weeks to wait.  Moral of the story is if offered buy a warranty!

  • I'm so glad you were able to get a new one! We got our rings through overstock and now I'm kicking myself for not getting the warranty with it. =(

  • That's good. I definitely suggest getting a warranty for wedding rings.
  • That's great!  I bought FI's ring from amazon and I'm pretty sure i didn't get asked if I wanted to by a warranty... Although i'm pretty sure I wouldnt' have bought it anyways because he's only probably going to wear it on the wedding day :(  ....

  • Warranties (or protection plan as our jeweler calls them) are SO worth it!  I had a stone fall out of my engagement ring twice - turned out the stone was too small for the setting - they replaced it for free.  It also includes resizing, which is good since my band didn't fit when it came in.

FI's is a kind that can't be resized either, but we got the protection plan in case he ever needs a smaller or larger band, and it will be covered.

  • OMG!  This post just made me realize that we never tried FI's ring on!  He doesn't want to see it before the wedding so I didn't even think to do this.  THANK GOODNESS you posted this!  I just tried it on him... it's HUGE!!!!

Luckily, it was only $10 and now I'm just replacing it with another $10 ring in a smaller size.  We'll hold onto both and he can wear the other one if he ever gets chubby.  :)

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • SO glad that worked out well for you!

We just had this issues. Kays ordered the wrong size for FI and he didn't notice. He tried it on a few weeks ago and it fell off as well. SO he took it up there and since it can't be resized (it is tungsten carbonate) they had to order him a new one. Since it had been past the 90 day return policy they wanted to charge him $50 to replace it, but they only charged $20. He paid it and the new ring will be here on the 24th. But I had I been with him, I wouldn't not have been ok with the $20. But it is taken care of now.

  • Wow, that's amazing! I didn't want to show JP his band until the wedding, but now I'm second guessing this decision. Maybe I should make him try it on. Mhmm..

Make him keep his eyes closed when you try it on him.
