March 2012 Weddings

absolutely ENORMOUS to-do list

So I spent all of November and December studying for my PhD exams and not doing any wedding stuff.  Now that I'm done with the exams I'm back in full time wedding mode and my to-do list is, frankly, terrifying - it's so big, I don't even want to post it.  I know I'll get it all done, it's just a little scary.  This is really a mini-vent I guess, and maybe a plea for some knottie vibes - I hear they can work miracles.

  • You still have plenty of time!  You can do it! :)

  • Happy knottie vibes headed your way!  Maybe break the master list down into smaller lists so it doesn't seem so overwhelming :)

  • Oh no.. don't get overwhelmed.. this is supposed to be the exciting time! :) I found that narrowing down my list to 3 top things made it a bit less terrifying.  Focus on COMPLETING those things before moving on... that's been my other downfall... getting "partial checks" rather than completely finishing the tasks (i.e. "design table descriptions" as opposed to "design, print, and put in frames"!)

My top three at the moment are:
    1) Print and frame table descriptions & I SPYs
    2) Confirm all ceremony/reception music
    3) Set up final meetings with vendors 1 month prior to meeting
    Anniversary

    Yes! :)
  • I did something similar - 2 1/2 months off wedding planning to get through Year End at work - and completely understand the "OMG so much to do!" feeling.

What's helped me is grouping similar tasks, example... I needed to follow up with a couple of my vendors, so I spent a lunch break making phone calls and took care of all it.
I've also let go of some of my "control freak tendencies" and delegated.  I had been working with my FMIL on our RD, not because she'd asked but because I couldn't let go, but I called her one night and told her I was feeling overwhelmed and would she mind if I let it go and be her thing?  Done.  If you're like me, it will be hard, but delegate whenever you can.  Giving her the RD let me focus on some details I really wanted, like my stamped place cards and programs.

Also, you'd be amazed what you can get done in a weekend, it will all work out :)
  • Positive knottie vibes being sent your way...you can do it..:)

  • Cmac and Harmony both gave great advice! I have a really big list, too, and I did something similar. First I ordered everything by priority and then grouped similar items together so I can get them done at once. Then I sat down with the calendar and figured out what week everything would need to be done. That made it a lot more managable since I can just look at what I have to do for this week, not the next 2 months.

  • That's such an accomplishment, so be proud of yourself! You still have time, so take one thing at a time. Prioritize your list and just start checking things off one by one. You have over 2 months to do, that's plenty of time! :)

  • I agree, prioritize which things are "time sensitive" and get those done before anything else. I too didnt even start planning until last week of december, I mean anything.. didnt even buymy dress until 12/28
and after prioritizing I have realized alot of the "small" things can be done even into feb early march. So focus on the big things and you will feel less stress.
I just looked at flowers yesterday and have yet to meet with the cake people!! :(
