Band recommendations

One of my fiance's MUSTS is to have band vs. a DJ for the reception.

We went to a reception in Baltimore a few years ago, and the band was just phenomenal - had everyone on the dance floor, played decade-spanning music, etc. - it was AWESOME and something that we'd love to replicate.  My first music-love is Motown (Temptations, Jackson 5 / MJ, Supremes, etc.) - basically, shake your a$$ type of songs (but am open to many types of music).

I went on the recommended vendor listing, but most music-entertainment was under DJ rather than band.  Do you guys have any great recommendations for this?

P.S. I have some general information from No Bad Ju Ju if you're interested; we considered them for our wedding as well but decided we wanted a DJ instead.  Happy to send it over if you want!

My friend's parents are having a huge party this summer for her. She says it's going to be a wedding-like reception. Anyway - they booked the John Parker Band for the party and she RAVES about them. I'm not sure of the pricing, but it's worth a look!!

LaFemme - if you can send to my email that would be fantastic!

Thanks everyone, this is great.  OMG, what in the world did people do before having the internet/boards at their fingertips??

We are using Betsy Lawrence and the Big City Band. They have some videos on youtube and I believe they have some on their website as well.

Can you ladies tell me prices for bands vs dj's?  I'm just getting into planning.

    Thanks!

Hi Andrea- from the preliminary research I did when we were considering band vs DJ, we expected to spend about $1,000 or less for a DJ vs $5,000 for a band.  (Admittedly, the only two bands we contacted for quotes and availability were very well known Pittsburgh bands; a band with less name recognition or that is less established in the region would likely cost a bit less.)  Hope this helps!
