Showers from this weekend!

Last week a bunch of us said we were having showers this weekend so I thought we could post recaps and pictures here.  If you previously had your shower, you can join in too!

I had the best weekend ever!  My shower was beautiful and a blast.  My mom did a killer job with the food and decor...she's the best.  Everyone was so generous and we got several of my favorite registry items.  A few of my friends and my cousin (one of my BM) also got me some really fun stuff for me and FI when we have our adult time haha.  After the shower we all went down to South Beach.  It was amazing and my friends totally pulled off surprising me with a stripper!  I was shocked and turned soo red but it was a blast.  Then we went dancing until the wee hours of the morning.   Just an incredible time.  I couldn't have dreamed of a more fun weekend.

Here are two pictures from my shower.  I didn't take many so it'll be a bit to track down pics from my friends.  Hoping some of those bachelorette pictures never surface haha.  We did make a promise that drunk pics would go to a private photo share site... no facebook for those!

Re: Showers from this weekend!

  • That awesome!! I can't wait for my shower.
  • I was thinking the same thing!  We need a shower post!  Glad to hear yours went well!

I don't have any photos right now.  But they did also give me a tiara to wear.  The shower went so well, it was in a pavillion at a park.  It was pretty warm out, but in the shelter with the breeze it was pretty nice.  The girls all made food and it was fabulous!  They did a memory game (look at the tray of kitchen stuff and later write down what you remember) and a "give the bride advice" game, then I picked the one I liked most.  Some were sweet, some were deep, and some were funny.  People were so generous and we also got nice items from our registry.  The gift that almost brought tears was a quilt my mom had a friend make.

A little backstory: I used to quilt a little bit with my grandma when she was around.  When she passed away years ago, I inherited her fabric (tubs and tubs of it!).  Well, when I moved to a new apartment two years ago, I just didn't have the space for it, so I had to give it away.  My mom has some sewer friends, so she gave most of it to them.  Well, she had this friend make a quilt from my grandma's fabric.  I was so touched!!

The day went by so fast, though!  I can't imagine how fast it will be on the wedding day!  I didn't have nearly the people at the shower that will be at the wedding, and the shower flew by!

Once upon a time, there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.
  • Awwww! You're so pretty! Looks like you had a beautiful shower!!!

My mom gave me something "from" my grandma who passed away too.  And I (and everyone at the shower) cried.  My grandma passed about 7.5 years ago.  She was the oldest and raised most of her own siblings since her parents both passed by the time she was 22.  Her one sister, Mary, has since tried to be a fill-in mom/grandma to me and my mom.  I don't see her often but whenever my mom visits she always sends me gifts.  Apparently when my aunt Mary got pregnant and was all alone a long time ago my grandma didn't have much but gave her $20 for an emergency.  She always made sure to have $20 in her wallet for emergencies and as her luck turned around made sure to add to the fund.  Well, to this day she has kept that fund for a meaningful emergency.  She decided since my grandma couldn't be with me, that that fund should go to pay for my bouquet.  Also, butterflies were something my grandma loved and that now remind my Aunt Mary and my mom of my grandma everytime they see one.  So my mom and Aunt Mary found me a butterfly charm to incorporate into my bouquet that they are paying for.

Now I'm crying again!  But I totally get the significance of this, fluffernut!

Thank you!!!  It was really just so wonderful!  I love to have some good quality girl time!!!
  • I had mine as well on Saturday.

Everything went well. I was absolutely freaking out beforehand because I had some drama with my two FSILs, but everything was fine. My mom hosted and had it catered. We decided on an apple theme. I wish I had a picture of the cake. It was awesome. Favors were a plastic apple filled with caramel cream candies.

I, too, got lots off of the registry, which I had stalked a little! Biggest thing we got and needed was a vacuum. Since we moved in together in December, we've been borrowing his mom's. So, we are totally going to use that present before the wedding, etiquette or no etiquette!

We definitely didn't have a crazy bachelorette. My SIL was somewhat stuck with her two girls (ages 6 and 4.5), along with another girl. So we enjoyed pizza in the hotel lobby. Totally okay with me.

Like Fluffernut, I was moved to tears when my grandmother presented me with a quilt. My grandmother is the toughest lady you'll meet: through breast cancer twice, skin cancer numerous times, she's blind, has no bladder. . .I could go on and on. We weren't sure she was going to be alive in the last two years, so her being here now is the best part of all this.

Thanks for letting me share. Sorry it got long!
  • My BMs pulled off an awesome shower, even though my MOH took the lead and is probably the least girly person I know. I know she tried her best and was really struggling with it for a while, but she did a great job.

They planned a travel themed shower, which was awesome because it fit in perfectly with  our honeymoon registry (DISCLAIMER: I'm aware that not everyone likes these but all of our guests are excited about it and ours doesn't handle payments/collect commission or give you specific activities you have to choose from). We got so many gifts, and even everyone who couldn't be there sent a little something for us. We are very blessed with generous people in our lives.

The games turned out to be awesome! My MOH organized all of the guests bringing in photos of somewhere I went with them, some of them even had me in them, and I had to guess where it was and who I was with. It was a really fun game for everybody! And everyone made a scrapbook page of either 'travel tips' or 'relationship advice' or 'traveling with your significant other' advice, which was so awesome! I'll have a wonderful memory of all of my shower guests for years to come!
