But I'm not a horse and carriage kind of girl..

My SIL just called me at work with an offer. My brother hunts on a farm that does horse drawn carriages for weddings. They would like to arrange one as a wedding gift. It would take us from the church to the reception site. I was so caught off guard, I didn't know what to say. Maybe if the wedding was anywhere but New Kensington. I can't see horses trotting down rt. 56. She said they will do it with a police escort. And the last thing I want to see on my weddidng day is the police, for any reason.I told her I'll have to talk it over with the FI of course. But I know, I'm going to have to break her heart. It's just not my style. Is this the point where I should start thinking about eloping?

aw tnice thought.I can see where you are coming from. I would maybe stick with the "I don't want to make a big fuss" Or "I don't want you to go to that much trouble" Or Maybe "We'll be on a tight schedule and that might take a little longer than a car would"Good luck with this one!

I think that it's a really cute idea but if it's not your style, I'd tell them that you already arranged transportation or something like that.

Yeah, I'm def. going to let her down easy on this one. It's a really sweet gesture on their end.I'm working on my -will you be my bridesmaids- cards in Illustrator right now. She doesn't know I'm going to ask her, so hopefully this will cushion the blow. Stace -- I would love to say we have transportation already, but she's been looking at my bio and is suggesting things that I haven't checked yet.

Ahh, I would have loved a horse and carriage!!!  I would definately use the time schedule excuse.  A horse and carriage I would imagine would take a long time.  Plus if it rains, that would be kinda crappy.

Angela -- The weather!! That's something I didn't think of. Thank you!I just talked to FI about it, he suggested maybe not doing the carriage the whole way down the highway. Maybe just a half a mile or so before the reception site. (which is a good idea too) We'll have to think about it more and see if the VFW would be ok with it.

I agree, that is a good idea!  But I'm sure it costs alot of money to only use for a 1/2 mile or so.  Plus, I'm not sure where you'd swich from car to horse and carriage.  Unless maybe you drove up to the shopping center and took the horse and carriage down the hill to the VFW.  That might work!

I'll tell you, my cousin jsut got married in June and they had a horse and carriage.  It did NOT take them to the reception.  it just took them way down the block and back but I have to say, some of the most beautiful pictures of their wedding day are them getting into the carriage, out of the carriage, and with the carriage in the background.  i don't think I'd go all the way to the reception in it, but maybe take it for a spin aroudn the block for some photo ops!
