Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invites - should we splurge?

Hi ladies, this is my first time posting to paper and invites so bear with me if I'm repeating a common question.

We've found an invite we love on etsy.com and includes the invite, RSVP and corresponding envelopes for $3.25. I've found "ok" invites on 123print.com that are $0.42 with corresponding RSVPs at $0.29 and envelopes are included.

We're a budget couple but have a small guest list (only 55 invites). Should we splurge on the invites we love or do I own up to the fact that most people are not going to keep the invite and it'll go straight into the trash once they RSVP and go with the less expensive invite?

I'm really torn about this. Any advice or experience with this same concern is much appreciated.

TIA!

Tarah

Re: Invites - should we splurge?

  • I personally didn't care enough about invitations to spend tons ofmoney on them.  People are just going to throw them away.  I would go with the cheaper ones.
  • I say get the cheaper one

  • Really only you can answer this question.

Invitations generally set the tone of the event.  It is the first thing people will see about your wedding.  If you think the cheaper invitations still fit the theme of your wedding, then go that route if it's better for you financially.  Personally, invitations were important to me so I spent money on them.
  • Can you DIY the etsy invite to get the same effect for less money?

  • Invitations were important to us, and especially my parents, since they are hosting and the quality of the invites reflected on them.  Also, I agree with pp that it sets the tone for the event. But, in the end, it's up to you.
  • Really no one can answer this but you. To me, $178 is not that much in the grand scheme of things, but maybe it is a large part of your budget. I spent a lot on invitations -- I love pretty paper products and I wanted the invitation to be beautiful and memorable. I also never throw invitations away so the idea that they're just going into the trash is kind of foreign to me :-)
  • I save wedding invitations also.  I'd personally go for the invitations you love if you can afford it.  As PPs mentioned, see if you can work with the Etsy designer to see if there's anything she can do with the price or see if you can print them yourself.
  • You gals offer great suggestions, thanks so much. I like the idea of working with the etsy designer and possibly printing them ourselves.

    Thanks again!
