FI and I just put a deposit on our venue for May 26, 2013, which is the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. We know that it's proper etiquette to wait until 6-8 months out to send STDs, with the absolute earliest being one year. However, in just mentioning our date to guests, we are already hearing about potential conflicts.
We were thinking of sending them out after the holidays, in February/March, which would be 14-15 months out.
Our reasoning is:
A. It's a holiday weekend for which many people have long standing plans.
B. We have a good number of out of town guests who are on budgets, and want to make sure they are able to save and make low-cost travel plans.
C. It's a Sunday, albeit a holiday Sunday, which could require some people to take an extra day off.
D. I have a number of friends and cousins who are planning weddings in the same time frame, but haven't set dates yet. I don't want to cause any drama with 2 weddings too close together, so I want to give them the heads up so that they can plan accordingly. I don't care if someone else has a wedding close to mine, but don't want to inconvenience guests or have to make them have to choose to attend one wedding over the other. (I already have one friend who isn't even engaged yet say that she is planning on getting married the same weekend as me!!)
Is there anything wrong with sending them out earlier? I'm thinking about doing magnets, so there's a better chance that they won't get lost by the time people are filling out their 2013 calendars...
Thanks!
