Wedding Invitations & Paper

Sending Invites

Everything I've read has said that invites should go out between 6 - 8 weeks before the wedding, so my plan has been to mail my invites on May 1 for my June 30 wedding.

But now my FMIL is pressuring us to send them now because the block of rooms she reserved will only be held until April 28, and she figures that sending the invites now will ensure that anyone who was planning to stay at the hotel will have time to reserve. (My "Directions" insert will have our web address with a note telling them to reserve the hotel by April 28).

I should mention that I'm getting married about an hour away from where I live and many of my technically "in town" guests will end up staying in a hotel for the night so they won't have to drive the long drive home after drinking.

Do you think in this case it's okay to send the invites now?

Re: Sending Invites

  • I would go ahead and send them out now.
  • I would call the hotel first, and ask if the hold can be extended.  I find it very odd that they would release the hold two months before the wedding.  If that is not possible, then I would send out invites within the next week, even though it is a bit early.

Both my fiance and my FMIL have called...they won't budge. It's basically one of very few decent hotels that are within a reasonable driving distance from our venue. We're getting married at a golf course surrounded by farmland and about four other golf courses that all have weddings the same day. Our venue alone has four weddings (including ours) during that same weekend. In a way, I totally understand where they're coming from...I think I'm more annoyed at the guests who didn't plan ahead after I sent our save the dates to everyone back in November.
