DIY Belly Bands

I'm doing the gatefold invite from Cards & Pockets, and I'm thinking of creating belly bands to go around them and hold the folds shut.  They seem like they should be pretty easy (although time-consuming) to make, but has anyone tried this?  I know I can order belly bands from C&P, but it seems so expensive for was basically amounts to strips of cardstock.

I used ribbon for my bellybands on my pocketfolds. There are pictures in my bio under DIY.

I also used the gatefold cards from C&P. I used ribbon and a square monogram to make our belly bands. I thought it would take a while to make them to but it really didn't take that long. I decided at the last minute to do them. I cut all my ribbons at once (measured one to make sure it would overlap so that I could hot glue them to the brown layer of card stock), cut all the square monograms and hot glued the monogram layer on top of the brown layer & ribbon.
