Damask Cut-out as Invite Background

I'm working on designing some invites for a friend's wedding.  We are doing pocketfolds and I want to use a lime green damask cut-out as the background for the invite.  I want the color of the pocketfold to show through the cut-out, if that makes sense.  Does anyone know if a Cricut machine can do this or some other way to get this cut out?  Thanks so much!  I know you girls will have some answers for me!

Re: Damask Cut-out as Invite Background

  • Which is something else I'd recommend changing.  I'm doing pocketfolds too.  And using removeable glue dots to hold it in the pocketfold, but still let people pull it out.

  • OK I'm unsure why you're recommending that I change the design.  I also had pocketfolds for my wedding and the invitation with the mat was not removeable.  I'm pretty sure the idea is to keep the inserts/invitations/important information all in one place.  Otherwise, why not do a flat invitation?
  • Also, the pocketfold is deep purple.  She wants the damask background to be purple and apple green.  Since I'm having trouble finding paper/cardstock with those colors, I thought maybe I could do a die-cut damask background in the apple green and then the deep purple would show though.  Thus, creating the two-colored effect she wanted.

I was giving you suggestions because I thought it would help.  You don't have to use them, of course.  But, the removeable glue dots would let the people who want to slip the invite out do so, and let those who want to leave it in do so as well.  The enclosure cards are removeable - why not the invite?

Anyhow. . . For the two-toned paper, I think the cutouts will look strange, really.  I suspect the cut edges might get bent, not be cut perfectly, etc.  Overall, if I received that, I would find it odd.  cardsandpockets does custom paper, which might help.  http://www.cardsandpockets.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2083

Obviously - feel free to ignore my advice.
