Wedding Invitations & Paper

Is including directions in the invitations a must?

Our invites were a part of a wedding package we bought and didn't include direction cards. Is it rude to not include directions in the invitations? Our ceremony and reception are in the same place. I guess I feel like it's somewhat pointless in today's day and age with all the smart phones and websites like Google maps, MapQuest, etc.

I found some on Vista Print for like $0.25 per card, so it's not really the expense, it's more about the cards not really matching the invitations.

  • I think it's really situation specific. Some cities are HORRIBLE with Google maps. Friends of mine in Cambridge, MA will tell me how to get to their home without using my GPS because the greater Boston area map system is that bad - or at least it was up until a few years ago which is the last time we made the trip.

Most invitations I get don't have a map in there. If you have a lot of OOT guests who don't know where you are getting married, the map is a nice idea.
  • Maps can be nice sure, but never required.

Well, essentially everyone is an out of town guest since we're getting married an hour outside of the city where we and all our local friends and family live. At the same time, the directions to the venue from off the freeway (which is the same freeway that runs through LA, where we live) are pretty short and simple.

We're making cookies and putting them in little bags for the OOT guests. I made cards on VP with directions from the hotel to the church, to the church to reception, and back to the hotel, to tie onto these bags. If cost isn't the issue, you could do this so that you still do something but don't have to worry about the cards not matching everything else in your stationary since the guests wouldn't see them until the day before the wedding.
