Save the Date... How late is too late??

My fiance and I are getting married Oct 2nd.  We are not sending out formal invitations except to out of town guests.  How late is too late to send out Save-the-date cards? We are supposed to take our Engagement pics in May and I'm hoping to include one in each save-the-date card.  Will mid to end of June be late sending these out??

  • If you're not sending formal invites, you shouldn't send save-the-dates.  STDs say "Formal Invitation to Follow" on them.

  • I'm not getting how you can't send out formal invitations, but I agree with Squirrly.

In normal circumstances, I'd send STDs 6 months out. I think 5 is okay, but pushing it. Anything less and they might as well wait for the invitation.

  • Why aren't you sending out formal invitations? Is it not a formal affair? Or are you just sending emails and spreading you wedding via word of mouth? If you are, that's not a good idea.
