My guest list is messed up!

I "upgraded" to the new guest list today-the week that I'm sending out the invites- and now it's all messed up!  It's changed my head count from 186 to 140-something because it's not including people invited with a guest as "2", it changed them over to a 1.  Now I don't even know half the people invited to the wedding, so unless I sit here with FH and try to figure out who's coming with a guest and who isn't, I can't even fix this myself!  We're also thinking of adding a few more people (our envelopes are at the printer and they're waiting for the last addresses as we speak) and I'm trying to stay at a good # . . . Now I'm not even sure what that is!!!  UGH, I CANNOT believe this!  Does anyone know how to put it back to the old format???  I was SO STUPID and made this my ONLY guest list.  I am FUMMING!!!! Yell

  • Do you not know how many kids people have? Can't you just count when the RSVPs come back?

  • Yes I know how many kids my family has, it's that AND figuring out who is invited with "Guest" whose name I don't know and who's not invited with a guest.  Many of these people I don't personally know.  Yes, I can sit here with my fiance and try to RE-enter who we want to invite with a random guest and who we aren't inviting with a guest, but I don't even know if I'm able to include people in the head count without a name now. . . The main point of all of this is IT'S A WASTE OF TIME!

    I unfortunately don't have excel (although my computer is only a year old) and it's not a program that I know how to use even if I did.  I thought the guest list manager on The Knot would be reliable since it's such a big site.  I have a copy on paper and a list in word but that doesn't help me tally up guests.  I'm paying quite a bit per head so I would like to know exactly how many people I'm inviting without couting it all up myself.  Yes, I can do it, but it's annoying. 

    I just want to switch back to the old list.  Does anyone actually know how to do this?  I've already emailed The Knot.
  • this happened to me too!  I had to go back and fix it, but luckily I had an excel backup.  I want to go back to the old format!

  • What did you do to fix it because I'm not even sure how?  Did you enter each family member's names?  What did you do with people who are "and Guest" whose name you don't know?  Should I just enter them in under the name of Guest?
  • I suspect when you convert that you can't go back.  That's normally the way with conversions. 

    Here's the thing - I'm sorry this happened to you.  BUT - none of us WORK for theknot.  And, if you'd asked here BEFORE, we would have recommended 1) a backup, 2) a useable list on your local computer, 3) weddingwire.com's tools.  All are better than theknot's tools.  The message boards here and articles and such are awesome.  But electronic tools and vendor reviews on weddingwire are better. 

    So - I think your choices are to deal with it as is, or go add the names of your & guests/children.  And just as an FYI - I'm not sure if you intended this or not, but your attitude in your posts is a bit more of an attack at those who responded than it is a vent about the issue.  The latter would be appropriate.  The former - not so much.

  • Squirrly, I'm sorry you took my response as a personal attack or perceived it as an attack on others- That was not my intent.  I re-read what I wrote and I'm really not sure where you are coming from, but I suppose you can take written words as you choose. . .

    I thought maybe someone else here had experienced the same problem, seeing as this is The Knot and it is on this site that I'm having the problem.  What I should have done prior to upgrading my guest list really doesn't help me now, but thank you for the hindsight.  I'm really not famillar with making guest lists or excel, I don't use any of these skills at work and this is my first wedding.  I'll manage on my own, was just hoping someone might know an easy fix.  Thank you and happy planning!
