Wedding Invitations & Paper

Addresses

Ok, my mom and FMIL asked me to get the wisdom from the Knot ladies.  Here goes:

When addressing an invitation (black tie wedding, but I don't know if that makes a difference) do you write out the state or use the state abbreviation?  Ex:

Sea Cliff, New York 11579

or

Sea Cliff, NY 11579

TIA!

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

Re: Addresses

  • On any wedding invitation, black tie or not, you should spell out the entire state name.  You should also spell out any other common abbreviations, like Apartment, Road, or Avenue.
  • I believe it's actually

    Sea Cliff, New York
    11579

  • Really?  Zip codes get their own lines?

  • I was always told they don't need their own lines, and the post office hates if you do that. We only had our calligrapher do that for city and states that were too long.

  • I believe the PO doesn't love it but you often can't fit it in appropriately on one line.
  • Gotcha.  Thanks ladies!  More questions to follow - I'm such a noob on this subject!

  • The PO loves block written city ST Zip, with everything captialized and no punctuation, because it goes through the reading machines easier. If you aren't worried about ticking off the PO, then you can put the zip wherever, but they might get there slower because they have to be hand sorted before they go through the bar code machine.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
