Wedding Invitations & Paper

Paperstock Weight

I'm making my own invitations and rsvp cards. I'm wondering what paperstock weight would be the best.

Thanks!

Re: Paperstock Weight

  • Ditto pps.  Our invites were panel pockets with the main invite and 3 inserts; we used 80# cardstock and had an envelope liner but were just barely able to use standard postage (now $0.45)
  • I personally think a heavier weight cardstock feels nicer and more elegant for an invitation. We ordered ours from Wedding Paper Divas and they were 110 pt. weight. Even with all the pieces assembled (invitation, response card w/ envelope, direction card, accomodation card and outer envelope) the whole thing was covered by a standard 45 cent forever stamp.

  • You should order some or go to a store that carries various weights.  It really helps if you feel, as no amount of written or oral descriptions can substitute for actually feeling the differences.  Try a local stationary store or order some from online.
  • Ours is 110 pt also - it's REALLY nice and heavy.  Do check with your local post office to make sure there won't be a surcharge for your wedding packet due to "inflexibility" or shape (square invites have a surcharge).  IF there's a surcharge, it's currently $0.20 per piece, so make sure to anticipate that possibility with really thick paper.
