Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invite Wording

Hey everyone!

So I'm having trouble deciding how to word the invites.  How would you word the part where it says "so and so are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter so and so to so and so, son of so and so" if the groom's father has passed away?

P.S. Sorry about all the so and so's  :)

Thanks!

Re: Invite Wording

  • There's a lot to this.

Are you marrying in a house of worship?
    Are your parents married?
Do they go by Mr. and Mrs. John Smith or do they prefer a different wording?
Who is hosting? (note: NOT paying.  Who is HOSTING the event).

The wording can vary with all those things.

Keep in mind though that the deceased cannot host a function.
  • You can either not list the deceased parent or say:

    John Michael Smith
son of Mrs. Mary Smith and the late Mr. Robert Smith

What do you have so far? Like Banana said, there's lots of variables.

  • Please do not put deceased parents on invites.  You can put them in the program

    Parents of the Groom
Suzy Smith and the late John Smith  (means they were married at the time of his passing)

    Suzy Smith
the late John Smith (means they were not married)
