Addressing envelopes for Married Lesbian Couple

I apologize if this has been asked before... I am addressing the enveloped and we are addressing all married couples as:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe

I have a lesbian couple who are hyphenated such as:

Jane Smith-Jones and Emily Smith-Jones

How would I address this Envelope?  We are not doing an inner envelope.

Thanks!!

    Thanks! Sorry I missed that!
  • I would check with the couple before using "Ms." versus "Mrs."
Since you said they are a married lesbian couple in your title, perhaps they prefer to each be called Mrs. If you don't want to ask them, use Ms., that's most acceptable, I'm guessing.

If they are married and share the same last name Ms. and Ms. is incorrect. The correct way would be to use the plural of Mrs which is Mesdames which can be abbreviated Mmes. You would address your couple in the following way: The Mesdames Sally and Betty Doe-Jones Or The Mmes. Sally and Betty Doe-Jones
  • Ms. is never incorrect for a woman. It just means "woman," not any marital status. If you want to know if either or both of them go by Mrs., you could just ask them. If you'd prefer not to ask for some reason, I'd stick with Ms.
  • They both go by Mrs.  My question was really about the first name, since the rest of the invites are going out to Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, and I can't do that for them
