Addressing STDs for guests w/ +1s XP

So, I have a couple of friends who are in weird "grey area" relationships, where they won't confirm that they're dating a specific person, but they also basically seem to be exclusively dating (and sleeping with) that specific person and have been for at least a year. We're not doing "and guest" for truly single friends, but these friends don't actually seem single. Would it be wrong to address the STD to "Jane Doe and Mike Smith," given the non-official state of the relationship and that they don't live together?

ETA: I'm cross-posting this.

  • I am trying to implement a 'date' policy. If they are in a serious relationship, they can bring a date. If you are going to let all the singles bring a date, just add 'and guest' to the STD. I have someone in the same boat who isn't Ina serious relationship. Her STD will NOT mention a date. If her relationship situation changes in the 4 months between the mailing of the STD and the invitation, I can add 'and guest' at that time. Just my thoughts. I don't always follow the rules. Lol.

I would just adress it Mr/Ms Smith and guest. Thats what we did. We gave all of our friends/adults relatives a plus 1 and my fiance's teenage cousins a plus one because we know they have significant others. Our budget allows for that though. If yours doesnt, then only offer the plus one to those that you know have bf's/gf's. Personally, I would give all adult guests a plus 1, especially if they won't really know many people at the wedding.

  • I agree with PP that it is okay to add +1 to the invite but not mention it in the STD.
  • I just sent my save the date to the person I know....when I send out the invites I'll add "and guest" but I feel like save the dates (at least ours) are a little more informal.
