Wedding Invitations & Paper

Which is correct??

Help!  FI and I are wording are invitations as follows:

The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of Bride to (or and??) Groom.

Do you use 'to' or 'and' in this situation?  I have no idea which one is correct!

Re: Which is correct??

  • I've seen it done both ways. We used "to"

You can see it used both ways here http://www.soulfulengagements.com/invitation-wording.html

  • "To" is appropriate for the ceremony.  If it's for anything else (at-home reception, vow renewal) it's "and."

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • You use TO for events that start before you are pronounced husband and wife.  AND is for events that start AFTER that.  So, TO is for the ceremony, and AND is for receptions, AHRs, vow renewals, etc.

The ceremony IS the marriage of the bride TO the groom.
Everything else celebrates the marriage of the bride AND the groom.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • I prefer "and." To me, "to" implies it's all about the bride...come to the wedding of Jane, who is getting married TO John. Or come to the wedding of Jane AND John. Obviously it's a small detail though and I don't think it really makes much of a difference.

This isn't always true. The way our invite was worded "to" wouldn't have made any sense. We used:
    Mr and Mrs John Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the Nuptial Mass uniting their daughter
    Me
    and
    Groom

"uniting their daugter me to groom" doesn't make any sense

No... actually... "to" would have made better sense. The ceremony united you to your husband.

I actually prefer "and" in most cases, but I just wanted to point that out.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it more... both seem to make sense in your case. It seems like both work in most cases... :P
