Wedding Invitations & Paper

Place Cards

I bought place cards that matched our other wedding stationary but ran in to the fact of how to put the names on them. I want them to be all straight and nice looking but my handwriting isnt perfect. I thought I could print them but being prebought they are cut and to small to go though the printer. Any suggestions for putting the names on them? i was thinking clear lables that you could print on but wasnt sure if that would look ok.

Don't use clear labels, they don't fool anybody.  Just use your best handwriting, and it will be fine.  If you want to, you can rule a very light pencil line to guide your writing, then erase it with a gum eraser afterwards.
  • Are they flat cards or tented (folded in half)? If they're flat and you're willing to buy extra card stock to back them with, you could gently tape them to a sheet of card stock at the appropriate spacing, and print them. It's kind of tricky, so PM me if you're thinking of doing this and I can help :)

I used to work at a stationer and someone once cut the paper before we'd printed the placecards, so we had to do something like this. It was annoying and took some trial and error but turned out great in the end.

Otherwise, just do as PP said and lightly draw a line to keep your handwriting straight then erase afterwards. Print clearly, don't try to do any calligraphy or anything, and you should be fine.
  • So I tried making a line on the cards to keep everything neat then erasing it but it just smuges the coating on the cards. Any suggestions?

Are you using an art gum eraser, the kind that you can knead?  You can't just use a pencil eraser.  You can buy it at Michael's or an art supply store.
