Wedding Invitations & Paper

DIY Invites - Good/Bad Experiences

Hello!

I am thinking about doing our own invites for our wedding. Mostly to save on cost and we are doing our rsvp's online. Can you share your good/bad experiences? Also, whats the best paper or software to use?  And lastly, the big one.. does it really save on cost? I still want them to look nice. Just kinda worried.

Thanks!! xoxo

  • We did not DIY our invites but did with the RSVP cards and insert cards. They were really easy and we did come copy and paste work. You can buy stock paper cheap. If you give me your email I can email you some pictures of how it turned out. Our RSVP cards we used post card paper ad stamped them to save on not having to buy envelopes.

I DIYed all of mine - from printing to assembling.  I ended up spending a little over $1 for each invite.  I didn't do mine the "traditional" pocket style.  Mine is just like a card with 2 layers and I RSVP online or by phone call.

The good is that it's unique to my style.  The bad is it takes a LOT of time.  But since I only needed to make about 40 invites it wasn't too much.  I would probably discourage DIY if you have to make a lot of invites (say over 50) because it will just become too stressful.

Personally I think it really depends on how you want your invite.  If you're not design savvy but don't mind assembling yourself I'd suggest go the route of having someone print predesigned invites for you and put everything together yourself.  That will definitely save you TONS.

Cards and Pockets is a good place to start.  Good luck!
  • I had a great experience, saved a lot of money, and got exactly what I wanted & couldn't find elsewhere.

I designed my own invites in Photoshop, had them printed at catprint.com, assembled them using pockets from cardandpockets.com, and made my own lace belly bands.  I love them, and they turned out way better than I thought they would.  There are pics in my bio if you want to look at them!

  • Yeah, I wouldn't mind doing them myself, but it is a lot of time and i am just pretty bad at transferring what is my head to an actual art creation.  So we are going with a graphic designer as well who does invitations.  She's been great and works with you on what you like what you don't and is really open to feedback, so you aren't just stuck with the first thing she mocks up for you.  I've loved it.  She's fairly reasonably priced as well.  Here is her website:

Take a look!  And Good luck!
