XP: spruce up plain invitations

Hello,

My fiance and I decided to go the cheap route on invitations and got ours from vistaprint. Now that I have them I cannot help but feel that they are too boring and simple and lightweight. I adapted one of their designs and stuck a fleur de lys on it since that is kind of our theme. It is in grey and white, since grey is one of our colors.  Does anyone have any suggestions for making invitations I already have nicer, maybe more substantial? Something that is not *too* hard, since I am not great at crafts. Thanks in advance.

  • We added ribbons with a monogram sticker to our plain invites to jazz them up.  They added style and functioned as belly bands.

  • Ribbons, gems, monogram stamp?
    Can you post a picture?

We could probably help better if we saw the invite!

  • Our invitations are being backed with the aqua blue wedding color (invitation itself printed on white of course) and this does make it more substantial.  Not sure how easy it would be to do this yourself though, you could probably use scrapbook glue to glue on the backing but it might be really tricky to cut out the backing just right without having something a little uneven.  I want to say our stationer is charging 25 or 30 cents apiece to back them but we weren't too worried about it because it's a small wedding and we're only ordering 50 invitations.

I like the idea of the ribbon and I think this is something that wouldn't be too hard to do even if you're not crafts-y.

You could also jazz it up with other things you put into your stationery set, like printing your reply card or a little card directing people to your web site/providing your contact information on contrasting/accent color paper or adding a sticker with your motif/emblem on the back of the envelopes where you have your return address.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
