Invite Wording

I have NO CLUE how to word our invites. We are paying for most of our wedding ourselves, however, FI's father is helping some. Do we reference him on the invites? Or just something like
BRIDE NAME & GROOM NAME invite you to celebrate...etc.

Also, can we address the dress code on the invitations? It's not black tie, but we still want people to dress up. I was thinking "Evening Elegant" but I don't know if it's ok to put on or how to word it.

*on a side note* thanks to all the ladies who have answered my many many posts. I've only been to 2 weddings ever so I'm a little clueless about all of this & it's so nice to have help!

As far as the dress code the only time you can really indicate what people should wear would be for a black tie or white tie event. Guests will now that it's a formal event 1 because it's a wedding and 2. your invites should reflect the formality of the event.
