Funny Story

I hope you girls find this as funny as I do....During a recent visit to Pittsburgh, by FBIL decided he was intrigued by my wedding magazines and decided to take a peek. He gave me all of his best advice re: bridesmaid dresses, bridal gowns, styles, colors, etc. Where he got all of his "knowledge" from is beyond me, but he obviously needs to go back to Wedding 101. He got super-excited when he found a picture of a bustled dress. I wondered why he was so enamored with this feature. I needn't have wondered. He explained it all.....You see, ladies, several types of dresses have a corset on the back. If you just pull on that "drawstring" the skirt simply bunches up!!! Some have special hidden drawstrings instead of corsets. All you have to do is pull it, and up the skirt comes! One, two, or three bunches in the back--it's up to you!! All you need are a few drawstrings!!!!  Most drawstrings are hidden in the layers of the dress, but some tough-to-conceal drawstrings are hidden with decorative flowers! Now, not every dress comes with this, but the ones that do are fabulous because it is much easier to dance!!!!  (And you all thought it was DIFFICULT to bustle your trains!! Silly buttons and loops-- next time just pull on the right string!!!!!!!)

That is pretty funny. Honestly though, my bustle WAS all done by drawstrings. The seamstress had placed color coded strings that just needed to be tied together. 13 sets of colored strings (They were hidden too!). Your BIL would have loved my dress.

I do think it was really funny that he had so many opinions though. And, the part about the corset back pulling up the bustle is hilarious.

He doesn't have half as many (inappropriate) opinions as my fiance, but that is another post for another day!

Haha, that's a fun story to share. But yea, now that I think of it...no buttons or loops for me, just 2 drawstrings to tie together. So I suppose there's some truth to what he said, but not much, esp. regarding corsets! :-)

Oh, and did you bother to correct him at all? ;-)

Not sure if anyone is even going to see this post, as I can't get on during work and missed all of your comments, BUT in my defense, he really means a drawstring like on a blind, not two strings that tie together. I let him go on and on for quite a while (2 trips to Pittsburgh, actually), until FBIL #2's girlfriend corrected him-- he didn't believe her, and asked several female cousins at a wedding--- who ALL told him he was wrong, but he still doesn't believe us. I actually snapped a picture of a bustled dress at a wedding, texted it to him, wrote "OMG, it is a drawstring!" and he wrote back "I told you so!" I will have to be mum about this thread and all of your strings, lest he "win" this debate!
