thank you gifts

I'm having 3 readers for my ceremony.  Is it customary to get them a gift to show our appreciation? Any recommendations as to what?

I'd say that it is customary. We gave our reader (our nephew) a personalized Christmas ornament since our wedding was in December. It depends on who they are in regards to gift ideas.

I received a small gift when I was a reader at my friend's wedding, but I  thought maybe she gave it to me just so I wouldn't feel left out when the bridesmaids got their gifts.

a gift card was actually something I was thinking of.... an ornament is a good idea, but I'm actually doing those as my favors.

yeah.... i forgot about our readers. we will have 2, but have only officially chosen one, and he is a close friend of mine. maybe $15-20 gift card? if i were a reader, that would be more than sufficient to me, along with being at the RD. hm.

I know a lot of people don't like buying gift cards, but I think it's perfectly fine, esp. if you know something the person likes in particular (Starbucks, a certain restaurant, etc.) that you can't exactly gift in other form. I had 2 readers- one is a huge Pride and Prejudice fan, so I found the DVD with some sort of special book detailing how the movie was made, and he loved it. Other reader was going to get VS body wash and lotion (I say was b/c she ended up not showing up to RD or wedding, so I kept them).

We gave 2 of the readers, my SILs, a bottle of wine (shaped like a black cat, it was so fun!) and a tin of pumpkin bark candy. We gave the other 2 readers, my BIL and my brother, steaks from Omaha Steaks. For them it was sort of a "thank for being a reader/thanks for flying down for the bachelor party" kind of gift so it was a little bit bigger (and went with their GM gifts).DH's niece and nephew presented the gifts and we got them each a $15 gift card, because I don't know what you buy 15-year-olds :P Everyone enjoyed their gifts! I don't think it has to be anything big, but it's nice to show your appreciation.

I'm thinking that anybody would be exceptionally please with a gift card to an exotic dancers club.  :-)  HTH!
