Re: Can someone proof read please?

  • And between names = should be and
Mr. and Mrs Bride = should be Mr. and Mrs. Bride
Again, And = should be and
four thirty should be half after four or four-thirty

There is always a discusion here as to whether to use the "and" in the year.

This is what I found in Crane's:

Isn’t it incorrect to use “and,” as in “Two thousand and one”?
In mathematics “and” denotes a decimal point, and since there’s no decimal point in the year “2001,” it may seem incorrect to use “and.”

Wedding invitations, however, are not mathematical equations, so the use of “and” as a decimal point is irrelevant. On wedding invitations, “and” is used simply as a connective word.

    I'd use instead either

    Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents
    and
    Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their children
    Bride
    and
    Groom
    Date
    Address
    City, State
    Time

    or

    Together with their parents
    Bride
    and
    Groom
request the honour of your presence
    at their marriage
    Date
    Address
    City, State
    Time

I'm not a fan of "as they exchange marriage vows"(that happens at every wedding) or "share in their celebration, love, joy, beginning of new life together," etc. (also supposedly happens at every wedding).  It can read like verbal PDA and traditionally, wording that emphasized the joy of the occasion actually was a signal that something was wrong, like an unwanted pregnancy.  Traditional wording has the built-in assumption that all is well and the couple are inviting you to share in a joyous, loving occasion.
  • The invitation should read in the 3rd person:

Because you have shared in their lives

    by your friendship and love

    together with their parents

    Bride Middle Last

    and

    Mr Groom Middle Last

request the honour of your presence

    when they exchange vows

    Saturday, the thirteenth of July

    two thousand and thirteen

at two o'clock in the afternoon

    Church

    Address

    City

    Reception to follow

    Four o'clock

    Location
