enclosure cards: how to tell people 'don't wear stilettos'

This may sound weird, but our venue is not very stiletto-friendly. It is actually at my parents' home where I grew up which also happens to be a little macadamia nut farm in Hawaii. We will have a big tent and tables and chairs, but getting around will require walking in grass and also on stairs that my dad built by hand out of lava rock (i.e. they are not very even). We are including with our invitations an enclosure card, and one of the things we would like to convey is that spiky heels are not recommended. This is the wording that we were thinking of using: "footwear suitable for traversing grass, rocks, and macadamia nuts recommended." My only concern is that people will freak out and think that we are going hiking or something, and that this might scare them off or cause them to dress more casually than is appropriate for the event. Is there a better way to convey this message?

On an enclosure card or on the FAQ on your website, I'd mention that the ground is uneven and women may find stilleto heels uncomfortable.

I wouldn't tell them what not to wear - just that they may find certain items to not really work well.

I think you can just leave it at "Guests are advised that the ground is uneven and to plan their footwear accordingly."

I would also have a few pairs of inexpensive slippers or sandals standing by on the wedding day incase someone does wear heels that will cause her problems.

Well if I received the message 'footwear suitable for traversing grass, rocks, and macadamia nuts recommended' I would not know what to expect and not have a clue what type shoes to wear. I agree with the others, have sandals/flip flops in a basket for those who wear heels anyways and let them know the ground is uneven

Thank you very much, ladies! We were planning on doing the basket of slippers for guests to change into if they like. And I admire the hardcore stiletto wearers out there...I have no idea how you do it but I am seriously in awe:)

I agree w/ pp who mentioned having other shoes on hand.

Maybe go to Old Navy or something and get some different sizes of cheap flip flops, JUST IN CASE.  Flip flops might not be your ideal image of footwear for your guests, but it's better than having ladies with broken ankles!  :-)

But I might put something like, "please consider footwear suitable for an outdoor (or garden) wedding" People are less likely to wear high heels if they think they'll get stick in grass - they'll wear flats or wedges.
