Men's Jeans

What's the difference between loose fit and relaxed fit?  My DH needs new jeans, so I was gonna get him some for Christmas.  But they make all these different styles for men now.  He just wants the regular loose-fitting (or relaxed-fitting - not sure which), non-low rise jeans.

You've got me! I also plan to buy DH jeans for christmas - he doesn't have any pairs that fit him really well. However, I plan to try to coax him away from his typical baggy style into something a bit trendier.

My DH would never go trendier.  I do, however, try to make sure he buys a darker wash.  That's as far as he'll go. :p

B also shies away from anything with a euro-cut to it, but I am hoping that if I sneak them into his drawer, maybe he'll wear them and figure out he likes them. I often have to sneak things into his drawers before he decides they're ok (or sneak items out that are well past the point where they can be worn in public)

I wish my DH liked jeans.  I always feel so dressed down if we go out and I wear jeans when he's wearing kahkis lol.

Searching on google makes me believe that "loose" is even more loose than relaxed. My DH is just happy to find jeans that are long enough!  I remember my brother trying on boot cut jeans once in a store and we laughed for hours.

Loose fit is looser and baggier than relaxed fit.Haha, my FI can be a total denim maven... sometimes I think his pants are trendier than mine ;)

I find that loose fit is bigger/baggier then the relaxed fit.  I like FI much better in relaxed then in loose.

DH has actually tried on boot cut or straight leg, and has hated them.  They looked like they'd be a looser fit than they actually were, which is why he even picked them up.

Gap has pretty good descriptions of their fits:This is DH's usual style - http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5138&vid=1&pid=675321This is what I'd rather convince him to wear - http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=31494&vid=1&pid=675323

I *think* I have the answer. My DH likes loose fit because they are loose in the hips and fall straight to the ankle, so that they are still loose all down his leg. The relaxed fir are lose in the hip, but then taper slightly in through the legs to the ankles, so they are closer to the leg. No one would ever accuse J of being "hip". Getting him out of jeans and a t-shirt or polo is always a battle.

B has chicken legs though, and it's really really apparent in baggy jeans - you can see the little scrawny bones sticking out. I think he'd look a lot better with less loose fabric billowing around!

Ditto E!  I'm okay with the loose fit on DH.  Maybe because my dad wears more of the relaxed fit. Can I say I love conversations about this type of stuff?  :)

Um, my DH bought a pair of jeans from Express that make his behind look better than mine.  WTH?We have "around the house" jeans (501s) and then "dress" jeans.  Oyy.

Jamie - Amen to that! Would you believe Dave does not even own a pair of jeans?!! I wear jeans almost every day! Sorry E, I have no advice on mens jeans. Good luck!

LOL Jennifer, maybe it's a "Dave" thing!  He only has one pair (that I bought him 6 years ago) and I'm sure they don't fit anymore.

Ha ha Jamie, it must be a Dave thing! I cannot even imagine Dave in jeans! Dress pants every day!
