Ughh

I should stop turning my cell on at lunch...yesterday it was about my grandfather, today it was the fraud dept. of my bank. Someone has made a few transactions to some detox company using my debit card. Thank goodness it was only 4 transactions, all under $3 each. They cancelled my card and will mail me a new one, and I have to file a fraud claim at the bank.I know it's not a lot, but it is so scary and makes me feel so violated. I've never had this happen to me before. I rarely shop online, rarely even use my debit card, and when I do, I am aware of my surroundings. Sorry if this sounds naive or pathetic, but I just about jumped when my phone chimed that I had a message. I've had enough bad messages/phone calls in the past, I still am antsy when I get a message.Sorry for the WOT again...I guess I'm not really asking anything, just venting my feelings. Carry on.

Hopefully it was just those few minor transactions and that will be the end of it. That sucks though to have to deal with the hassle.

Yikes, that is definitely scary!  I'm sorry you've been getting so much bad news lately :( Good thing your bank caught it- hopefully this will take care of the whole problem.I've never had this happen to me either- don't feel bad about being upset!

That sucks!  I am glad to hear that your bank caught it right away though.  It is a violation though - vent away.

Thanks ladies. I really do need to step it up and watch our accounts more, as I believe some of you check yours every day. Thank goodness the bank catches these things, but it has definitely motivated me to pay closer attention.

Sorry this happened.  FI had this happen a few years ago and it was a pain.  Just keep checking on your cards, you never know where they may have gotten the info.

Yikes! I'd find that unnerving too. Glad your bank caught it, but if you haven't done so recently, now is a good time to pull your annual credit report. It'll show you if any new accounts were opened up with your name/soc security number.

Confession: I've never checked my credit report. It's free once a year, right? How do you do this? I've probably heard a million times, but my mind is blanking right now.

Thanks, I'll be sure to do one soon.

Can I ask what might be a really dumb question here?  I heard that whenever you check your credit score like this, it actually lowers your score.  Is that true?  Does it apply if you just do it once a year, or does it happen only if you check it all the time?

Good question LaFemme. I have no clue either- hopefully someone who is more financial savvy will chime in. I need my own financial adviser/planner- I hate this stuff!
