PW: Heart-melting story

I think as most of you know, my DH teaches HS special ed kids.  This year, he is also coaching them in a soccer league in our county.  The "playoffs" were last night (after being delayed for rain for a few days last week) Every team got to play 4 mini games.  I went to watch, since I couldn't make it to any of the other games which are all in the afternoons.  These kids were soooo excited to be there and to play.  And they were so freaking adorable.  One of the players says "thank you" every time someone passes the ball to him and another kicks it out of bounds every.single.time.  When the leading scorer gets one in, he runs off the field to high five his dad.  They all cheer even when the other team scores on them.  It was so fun to watch.  :)I left before the awards ceremony and they sent home a medal for me too because I was part of their team yesterday.  I was a puddle on the floor.  :)

That is so sweet.  I love volunteering for the Special Olympics when I was in college for exactly these reasons. How lucky your DH is to be surrounded by such positive kids and how lucky they are to have such a great teacher (and teacher's wife! ) :)

Yeah, it really is so rewarding.  I'm jealousE.  :PI left out a really cute part.  DH asked one of the kids who I have met a few times before at school if he remembered who I was.  And he looks at DH and says...yes, that's your mom.  HAHAHAHA!

Wow, I am tearing up a little. That seems practically unheard of today. It's good to know that some kids are still polite and know how to have fun instead of get carried away with the game. Thanks for sharing!

Oooh my gosh! I love it!  That had to be the greatest, most uplifting game to watch!  What a challenging and rewarding job your DH has! I majored in special ed for two years but realized for some reason that I didn't want to spend my life in a school.  I still think I'd love so many things about it, though.  Enjoy that medal!

That's awesome:-)  I'm getting teary just reading it.  It's a tough job, but reasons like the one in your story are why I love teaching these kids:-)
