Wedding Invitations & Paper

got my invites, kinda confused

I got my invitations in the mail today. I ordered inner and outter envelopes cause there was no extra cost and I figured the inner ones were gonna be shiny or something, like a liner. anyway, I get them and they're just plain envelopes that are smaller to fit inside the bigger ones. Whats the purpose of this? Sorry it just doesnt make sense to me.
Also, my reception folder, was just that- A "folder" like its made to fold in half like a greeting card. I dont get it. Do I just fold it and send it like that or do I write something in there? I was planning on having another little card printed with our website address, maybe I should just write it in in the card?

Not sure how this all goes together, thanks for any advice

  • The reception folders I'm not sure about from your description - can you post a pic or a link to the listing you purchased them from?

As for the inner and outter envelopes. . . traditionally, the outter envelope would be dirty, and the servants would remove it and just present the clean inner envelope to you.

The 2 envelope thing sounds pretty pointless. Do people actually do that?
  • Yep, people definitely still do it.  I'm using pocketfolds else I would have them too.  It's just a little more formal than a single envelope - although they're certainly not required.

As for your reception folders. . . do you also have RSVP cards?  If not, they may intend people to hand write their RSVPs in there and send back to you, but I'd bet that would confuse a lot of people.  Either blank or feel free to include your note about your website.

  • Our RSVPs and reception cards were both folders. There is no real point to it, just fold it so that the words are on the outside and use it as is. No need to write anything in there.

The outer envelope is addressed in full, the inner envelope traditionally says Mr. and Mrs. Smith

They come in the most handy when inviting families (you list all the kids' names on the inner, or couples who do not live together).
