This has sweets, soups, and craft stuff (like a mending kit that you can put in a tiny jar, complete with a pincushion on the lid)http://www.amazon.com/Homemade-Gifts-Better-Homes-Gardens/dp/0696223597This seems to be the recipes I have:http://www.amazon.com/Gifts-Muffins-Breads-Scones-Boxed/dp/1412721687/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258061659&sr=8-1But mine looks like this (this actually looks like one I"d like to get):http://www.amazon.com/GIFTS-FROM-A-JAR-COOKBOOK/dp/B0002ZZWVU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1258061782&sr=8-5There's another one i got but can't find a link to called "Family Living Our Favorite Gift Mixes" but there are several that need to be kept in the fridge.  This was from JoAnn Fabrics and it was one of their $1 cookbooks, I'm not sure if they still have it around but it's worth a shot.  There might even be websites dedicated to these types of recipes, I just didn't bother looking.  The other night I ordered postcards from Vista Print to use as the tags with ingredients/directions.  Sorry I'm all over the place in this post, I only had a minute before I have to run to a meeting :-)

I just looked at these closer. Now, I really want to make gifts in a jar for everyone! Do you have any favorite gifts? I think I read the potato soup? That sounds delicious! My BFF always does hot chocolate in jars which is adorable. Thank you again.

The only one I've made so far is from the blue book, it was chocolate muffins with white chocolate chips.  I gave it to 2 or 3 different people and they said they really liked it (but I still haven't tasted it myself).  We just bought a big bag of craisens for holiday baking, so I'm thinking of doing some of the cranberry recipes or substituting cranberries for chips/other berries (there's one for blueberry scones that looks fairly easy).  You can do a lot of different types of oatmeal cookies and those ingredients are fairly cheap.  I really should try making some of these for myself lol.  The potato soup was easy, I think we added a bit more milk than they called for, but that's all based on how thick/thin you like it.I didn't get to look through the books as much as I would have liked to in the car tonight (I forgot how early the sun goes down now).  I might try posting some of the recipes in my cooking blog if I have time this weekend and I'll make sure to put up a post that they're in there for anyone interested.I did notice quite a few cocoa recipes, flavored coffee creamers, flavored instant teas, I really don't know how cost friendly they'd be when you think of how cheap and available some of those already are. This site has a ton of categories for jar gifts, http://www.recipegoldmine.com/foodgift/foodgift.html I would just be careful finding out what size mason jar you'll need, how long it'll keep for, and if it needs to be kept in the fridge b/c that could be a pain to give as a gift.

I just came across this and think it's a great idea for a kid, not really for Christmas, but maybe more of an end of the school year present to give them something "educational" to do over summer vacation http://christmas.organizedhome.com/gifts-in-a-jar/childs-journal-jar
