What bakery are you using for your cake?

So I've been having nightmares lately about not having a wedding cake, so I figure its time to research and start some tastings! What bakeries are you ladies using?

Thanks!

I'm not much of a help - the caterers at the Carnegie Museum (parkurst dining service) are making our cake. But my brother and his FI are getting theirs from Prantl's Bakery in Shadyside... I don't know if you've been there but they have the best desserts EVER :)

Our venue uses Lincoln Bakery and the cake was delicious.

I'm afraid I'm not much help either- the pastry chef at my venue is making my cake.  Sorry!  I know that Bethel Bakery, Oakmont Bakery, and Signature Desserts are all recommended here a lot, though.

oh yes- Oakmont is very good!

We used Signature Desserts for their dessert buffet - yum.

I'm usually a die hard Bethel Bakery girl, but if you are familiar with their regular cakes...their wedding cake and icing are both different.  It isn't BAD, but it isn't as good IMO!

Oakmont Bakery. Unimpressed with Bethel Bakery. Stingy on their tasting samples. Everyone else gave me six inch cakes in a couple flavors to take home. Lincoln is good, but it's better for birthday cake. Carlini was my second choice...very comparable in "lightness" to Oakmont.

We used Bethel Bakery, but I'm not familiar with how their regular cakes taste, so we didn't know the difference! We had the mango filling and it was awesome.

I used Cakes by Tammy and highly recommend her. My cake is in a post below and was really unique and perfect. Her prices are also the lowest.

Stay away from Cakes by Carlini, a previous suggestion. If you need more info about it, PM me.

what's wrong with carlini? I almost went with them until we all agreed on Oakmont.  The price was really reasonable.

    I used Hostess cupcakes.

I personally witnessed Cakes by Carlini show up really late with a cake, drop it, then try to cover it up before the bride knew. The baker doesn't come out, only a delivery driver, so no one with the skill to repair it was there. The hotel tried to fix it, but it was not great.

I've heard wonderful things about Oakmont and Bethel Bakeries, though I've never had anything from Oakmont and only regular cakes from Bethel.

"Our venue uses Lincoln Bakery and the cake was delicious."

My venue uses Lincoln Bakery as well.  I "THINK" I may have had cake from there in the past, but I can't remember.  Did you get to do a tasting?  If so, how was it?  I jokingly said that Lincoln Bakery is the Bethel Bakery of the North.  Hope I'm right!

I used Oakmont Bakery and the cake was pretty & delicious.  The wedding consultant is very friendly :)

ALTHOUGH! They dropped off a circular cake stand instead of square - apparently they only have 1 square.  Of course I reserved the square one, but whatever.  Luckily my reception hall saved the day and provided me with a one instead.

Signature Desserts was my baker and HIGHLY reommended. You get tons of desserts in addition to your cake for basically the same price as just a cake somewhere else.

I used Celebrations by Janet Rands out of Charleroi, Pa. My DH hates cake and when I brought the sample cake home (instead of a nibble she actually sends an 8" round cake home with you to try) he took a bite and said it was the best cake he had ever had and to book her.  She has a limited cake flavor selection, though. I got her Vanilla white cake with raspberry filling, and havebeen contemplating ordering one since it was so good!

    Thanks so much ladies!

Reanna- We actually visited Janet Rands this weekend and LOVE her cake! We also did a tasting yesterday at Potomac Bakery in Dormont. We are currently  torn between these two bakeries! I am glad to have heard from someone who used Celebrations for their cake!

My reception is actually in Monessen, PA- which is about 10 minutes from Charleroi, So I think that Celebrations is the best choice, but my fiance likes Potomac better.

What cake flavor did you try? We were very pleased with everything with Janet. TBH i was a little worried at first, she looked un-organized, but it turned out great!!

I've actually been trying to think of an excuse to order a cake that is the flavors our wedding cake was...We should have gotten a lot of leftovers but got none. :(
