NWR: Uneasy feeling...

A woman who claims she works for the insurance company my FI uses has been calling his cell phone and asking for me.  She said she wanted to set up a meeting to discuss rates with me to make sure I'm getting the best deal, but as far as I know I don't have any accounts with them!  I thought maybe Jason had me on our renters insurance, but he doesn't think so.  We were supposed to meet with this woman tomorrow evening, but I felt weird about it and had FI cancel.  He called the regular office number (different than the one the woman has been calling from) to cancel, and the girl who answered was really confused, I guess because our "appointment" wasn't on record with them.  FI tried calling the number for this woman (and so have I from one of the phones at work), and no one picks up...actually, it sounded like I got disconnected after about 6 or 7 rings.  I did reverse lookup for the number and it's listed as an unpublished landline, most likely in Milwaukee.  What the hell is going on?  I'm really creeped out right now, and I'm not sure what to do about it.  I feel like we were in the process of getting scammed big time...I feel so uneasy about this.  Help!!!

Re: NWR: Uneasy feeling...

  • Don't go to any appointments with this lady, that would totally freak me out too. Maybe explain the situation to the receptionist at the "company" she's claiming to work for, she can forward it to her fraud department and figure out what's going on!
  • Definitely do what PP said. Maybe even call authorities as it sounds like you have her phone number even if it has been dissconnected. I hope you didn't give her any personal info, SS, address, or stuff like that. Maybe do a free credit check in a few days/weeks.

  • I definitely did NOT give her any personal information.  I'm definitely going to look into this and inform the proper authorities.  I hate crap like this, it's seriously the LAST thing I need to stress me out right now!
  • This sounds like a scam, I would let the company know of this and report her to the authorities.

  • Definitely agree with PP.  You guys should explain the situation fully (if you haven't already) to the insurance company she is claiming to be from so they can look into it.  If this woman truly doesn't work for them, they need to figure out who this person is so they can put a stop to it.  I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I recently checked my credit card balance and there's a $100 cash advance that was taken out on it.  I've never taken out cash on that card EVER.  It left me feeling strange too because the only place I used it recently was to pay our DJ, and this DJ has a wonderful reputation in my area.... bleh.

  • I agree with PPs. That would seriously have me freaked out and stressed. That is NOT something you need right now.
