What to do with little sister?

My fiancee has two younger sisters, one is 12 and the other is 7.  The 12-year-old could be a junior bridesmaid, but the 7-year-old is to young to be a bridesmaid and to old to be a flower girl.  She also has unpredictable fits....so maybe a position in the wedding party isn't the best.  However, she will be offended if she's not given some sort of job.  Any thoughts?

Re: What to do with little sister?

  • I don't think 7 is too young to be a flower girl.  I was a FG at 6.  Maybe give her a small bouquet or pomander instead of dropping petals and have her walk down the aisle with her sister?

As far as the fits go...IMO, I'd rather risk FSIL throwing a fit than having to deal with family drama that may ensue as a result of asking one sister to be in the wedding and not the other.

  • My flowergirl will be seven!! Its not too old. honestly, I would NOT want a child under four to be my FG or RB. It's so much easier to direct a older child. They can understand/listen to directions easier. They also "get" whats going on. They think its fun. Try putting a two year old in a itchy dress and telling her to walk slowly down the aisle. Lol. If you don't want her to be a FG, maybe she could walk before the FG and hold a "Here comes the bride" banner or something...

  • I was a FG at the age of 8 and 10 for my older siblings' weddings. I don't think that she is too old to be a FG. Like PP have said, you can skip the throwing petals part if you'd like or mix up the role to fit your needs.
  • My FG's will be 10 and 8.. and they want to drop petals. They don't just want bouquets.. so I think 7 will be fine.

  • My flower girls will be 5 and 7 and my ring bearers 9 and 7 ( the 9 year old wnats to be a ring bearer, he was never one, and he said he cant live his life without doing it) haha!

the 5 and 7 year old flower girls are my only neices and they love being flower girls. its your wedding, there is no rule on ages
  • She can be one of your Jr BMs I was 7 as a Jr BM in my cousins wedding, but 7 isnt too young for a FG either. I was 6 in my moms wedding
  • I agree with PP...7 is not to young. I would almost even venture for the 12 year old to be one too if you aren't close with her. With the age gap I'm assuming you are just trying to be nice and include his family right?

remember, the 12 year old will have a hard time standing still the whole time too... we are having our flowergirl sit with her parents during the ceremony...maybe something to think about that would be a good compromise??
