Setting a date?

Ok, so I am (for some reason) stuck on May 18th. I haven't set it up with anyone yet (money reasons), but am wondering if it would be hard to plan a wedding for a certain date without 'verifying' it with important people first (such as pastor, venue, etc.)? It is a Friday, so I'm thinking that will make it a bit easier, but what are your thoughts?

Re: Setting a date?

  • If you're just looking at things I think it might be ok. I'd recommend setting it sooner rather than later though. Also, I'd be a little nervous putting any down payments locking you into that date without at least the venue secure. Other things you can change as needed (if your favorite florist isn't available or something you can find a similar one who is) But it would be awful to have those things set then realize you cant find a venue on that date.

  • I agree, the first thing I would do is secure your reception and ceremony site. Then do the photographer, pastor, etc.

BTW Great date! That's mine :)

  • agree w/ PP posts! venues first then everything else.
I'd also make sure that date works for the family and friends who are most important to you, May is a big month for graduations, etc.

  • Yes, definitely secure the venue and reception site first before you start booking other vendors.

  • i picked my venue before i picked my date...so what they had available played into when...also because its out of town we knew we needed a long weekend. As long as you can get a venue on the date you want...everything else will fall into place....but as everyone has already said...secure a date with the venue before anything else

  • Graduations aren't an issue here, as our schools are getting out and graduating in June the past few years. As for sooner-rather-than-later, I'm waiting to have enough money for the deposit. It's $500 just to reserve the venue.  I have been working almost 50 hours a week lately just so I can afford it without going near a loan office (that's a dumb idea in my book).
  • talk to the venue and see if they can put a "tentative booking" down, thats what we are doing...they will call us before they give that date to anyone else, even though we havent put any money down yet...then if someone else wants the same date we have to come up with the money within a week of when they call us...if not we have until december to come up with the deposit
