Alterations

Hi Ladies,

Was just wondering if anyone could give some recommendations for a good seamstress to do alterations on my wedding dress. I bought it at David's Bridal but I've heard horror stories about their alterations dept so I'd like to take it elsewhere. I've read the names on the vendors list, but I don't know how good they actually are, and what their pricing is like. I live in Gibsonia, is there anything around here? I will go downtown if I have to. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!!

I used Victoria from the recommended vendors list, she was great.  I believe it was $115 for hem (from the waist), bustle, and creating a sweetheart neckline.

I used Clarissa's in Southside. The ladies were wonderful, and did great work! I also found my headpiece and earrings there.

Exquisite Bride is super close to you. They have a contractor come in and do their alterations. So you can call and go through them even tho you didn't buy the dress there

Does anyone know what an average price is for alterations? I know I won't know for sure what I will need until my gown comes in, but based on the sample I think I will only need it hemmed. I am having such a hard time budgeting certain things because I have no idea what normal prices are!

I think it really depends on the dress.  Some have multiple layers that need to be hemmed, some are only one.  Mine had detail around the bottom so it couldn't be hemmed there.  The seamstress took it apart at the waist and pulled it up from there.

Thanks guys for the responses! The exquisite bride is right up the street from me, but I know their gowns cost an arm and a leg so I was kind of afraid the alterations might be more on the expensive side too. I also wasn't sure what quality of work they'd do Thanks again! Smile

My alterations weree $350, but I had a sash added, a brooch stiched on 11 points for the bustle, multiple layers hemmed, a real bra stiched in, and several inches removed the the gown (I lost weight after ordering) and boning repositioned, and hand beading re- added.  My gown was pretty extensive and very heavy, just to give you an idea (pic in bio).

I used Clarissa's for some custom gloves - I was not very pleased with the quality of their work for $75 gloves.  I did love their accessories - and bought several things there.  Just my opinion!
