A little sketchy...

I had a consultation with a wedding coordinatior and everything went awesome. Her prices were decent and I met her at a bridal show.. We met face to face and it was a free consultation and after a couple days my fiancee and I decided we want to book her. I emailed her telling her this and listing what I wanted in our package and a new contract. She said for me to mail her the contract ( she attached it in an email ), with the deposit. Is that normal? I am not comfortable sending a deposit of $400 through the mail, with my contract. I felt a little sketchy, so please let me know your input. Thanks :)

Re: A little sketchy...

  • I've mailed my deposits to every vendor... maybe go with a money order if you feel uncomfortable? I've used personal checks though, and it's been fine.

  • That's how I am handling a lot of my deposit... I am using my personal checks and so far so good... I do put my check in a smaller envelope though because some envelopes you can see right through....

I prefer doing contracts in person, but most of my vendors are about an hour away so I actually just did my florist contract last month via mail (she e-mailed the contract, I let her know changes I wanted made, she sent it back with changes, and then I mailed it to her with the deposit). I e-mailed her to verify that she had received it, and when I didn't hear from her, I called to double-check (apparently it takes mail a while to get to the area so she had just received it that morning).

It was a bit nerve-wracking at first when I didn't know if she had received it, but once I called to be sure it was fine. I also have my bank statements to verify that the check was cashed. As long as you have the contract and verify that the vendor receives everything, then I think it's fine. That being said though, I get really anxious about something going wrong so I think I'll be doing them in person from now on if I can.

<div>We also did several of our deposits this way, but as said in PP, go with a money order if that makes you feel more comfortable...or ask her for another meeting...</div>

  • This seems to be the norm with vendors, but if you are uncomfortable sending checks through the mail then do a bank check or try to go in person.

  • This is actually the norm with many vendors.  Some feel it's more convinient for the planner & the bride
