is anyone doing their own food? outdoor/garden wedding

hey ladies! i am having my wedding on my college's "quad" and will be having a casual, but elegant wedding reception. i am planning on having around a 100 people attend (maybe a few more) and am in desperate need to try to think of some elegeant, not typically "cheesy" or gross wedding reception food. i have been to a few wedding receptions where  the food has been AWESOME (and they did it themselves), but i have also been to a couple that the food well.....you know.

what do you suggest? i really was thinking bruschetta, some type of pasta(s), different varities of bread from a local bakery(most of us our vegetarians and are in love with carbs!), fruits, maybe some stuffed mushrooms, and then i am at a loss.

anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance!

  • It's not a good idea to do your own food. There's a lot of work involved with keeping it hot/cold enough so that bacteria doesn't grow. A lot of people can get really sick if foods aren't kept at the right temperature or not prepared correctly.

My advice would be to contact local restaurants to see if they cater and barbeque can be catered pretty cheap. A lot of times, having barbeque catered can be cheaper than doing food yourself.

  • I agree with PP.  It will be wayyyyy too stressful to have to deal with your own food.  If it were a smaller amount of people it wouldn't be too bad but with 100+ it will just be one big headache.  (I've had people want to bring in there own food and try to prepare it on site, it was an even bigger headache for me since the brides were usually flipping out about everything being ready and not having enough).  My advice: budget in for food, even if you have a local place bring it in it's less of a stress.
