Videography

I can't decide if I want a videographer or not.  It'd be nice to have a video that we can watch after we're married, but I can't justify spending $800 or so on a videographer.  What do you think?  Are many of you using videographers?  If so, have you found any affordable ones or do you have any recommendation?  Maybe it'd be possible just to get the ceremony recorded and that would make it less expensive.

Thanks!
Julia

    Hi Julia,
This was posted a couple days ago.

I'm going to attempt to link to the page...
    http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/local-wedding-boards_pennsylvania-pittsburgh_wedding-video

This will give you an idea from many of the brides on here.

I could not justify spending money on a videographer.  My FI and I decided that we most likely would not watch it after our wedding as much as we would look through pictures.  We spent a little more than we wanted on a photographer instead!

No problem Julia!  It had jumped to a second page.  The post was really imformativel, that maybe it would help you!

I agree with you, the ceremony would be a special keepsake.

I had one. I know a lot of people think they are a waste of money, but video was important to me- it's the closet thing to re-living your wedding day, IMO. Plus there is so much you miss! I used Jeff Mansfield of HIgh Point Video in Latrobe. I don't have his info at work, but I can send you PM when I get home. I don't have the video yet, but he was great to work with. I know this looks bad, since my wedding was nearly a year ago, but I (well, my mother) has majorly procrastinated in sending him the pics for our photo montage. He has a range of packages, from basic to ones with effects. I'm not sure of the pricing, since I book in 2008, but I did splurge- to me it was worth it.

I love having a wedding video! We've watched ours quite a bit more than we thought we would, and our parents and grandparents love having a copy to watch and show all their friends. We splurged on our videographer, but it was something that was important to us. Like Kim said, its the best way to re-live your wedding day. I love our pictures, but the video is just extra special.

I wasn't going to get a professional video done but changed my mind at the last minute and I'm really glad, we love having it.

IMO, a wedding video is more 'real' than the photos (although - don't get me wrong, I think photos are SUPER important too)... But with a video, you actually see the two of you and your real emotions on the day... I'm definitely having a videographer for my wedding!! I'm sure you can find affordable videographers out there - mine was a bit pricey but I loved his work and my mom especially loved it and really wanted him for our day!! GL!

ThIS!!!  We were able to show friends our wedding and reception that were snowed out of attending, and all of our parents love having a video.  We've been married 3 months now, and have already watched it 3 times.  Our DVD was ready in under 3 weeks, but I got married up in northern new york, and the photog was a close family friend.  I did not pay for the videography, the photog and video were a wedding gift from that friend.

I struggled with this question as well.  We finally decided to go ahead and get one.  But we went with a very affordable one.  $650 all together.

Thanks for all the feedback!  I think you've convinced me to get one :)

Marburs - could you please PM me the info for the person you used?  That seems very affordable compared to the other prices I've seen.  Thanks!

As of now, we are not having one. I really just don't have a desire to have a wedding video. I do not like to be on camera and I think the only time I would like at it is, god forbid, something happened and my soon-to-be DH and I weren't together anymore. (I picture watching it like she does on Sixth Sense.) It just isnt' a priority to me, photos, that is what I care about and want a lot of!

I think about what one does after DVDs aren't the "in" thing anymore. My sister's are on VHS and none of us have a VCR to watch them on... so she has to get them converted, but she never watched it, so she doesn't have a desire to get them reformated.

    Just my two cents!

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

If I were your sister, I'd just buy a VCR player- they do still make DVD/VCR combos. Nothing is going to be "in" forever. There's no predicting what will come after DVDs, but I'm sure they'll always have something to play them on, or you'll be able to convert them over.
