Are you having a Planner??

We got lucky that a friend from work, who looks just like David Tutera by the way lol, is starting up his own planning business and is helping us with the After Honeymoon party. He's helping me all through the process and on the cheap. If I didn't have him I'd probably just use someone day of since Sandals provides one for the DW.

Are you having a planner? for the whole thing or just day of?

Re: Are you having a Planner??

  • I'm considering a day-of planner, but I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm leaning toward hiring one because I really don't want any added stress on the wedding day!

Like said in PP, we considered a day-of-planner...but then again, we won't be DIY'ing much at all and my venue have planners built into them, like your DW....plus I could never have an all out planner, #1 to much $$$, #2 I'm too much of a control freak...lol

@Kat: btw, I LOVE St. Pete Beach (I've been meaning to say this for a while now, lol)...my family has condos there...lol.

  • My FSIL used one for her wedding and referred us and got us a great deal! So we will be using one pretty soon.
  • If you can hire one, DO IT!

I originally hired who I am using for just day of coordination. When I tell people, esp. my FMIL she always asks why, what is the point. Well, they do a lot. They coordinate the entire time, work with vendors on timelines, when to arrive, what needs set up where, when how, etc. They will go pick up flowers for you and mine wil get my cake (saving me delivery charges in the end). I am also going to do my own centerpieces so she is going to be setting up all the tables and doing all the decorations. Yes, the place I'm holding my wedding will do this but I really wanted to work with someone with my vision and just overall organize and keep everything together for me.

I ended up going from DOC to having her plan certain parts of the wedding. Now, she will deal with anything pertaining to my wedding venue bc the owner is straight up crazy.

I ended up paying $1700 for 8 hours of wedding day coordination, 1 hour rehearsal with us and up to 6 meetings for planning, reception meetings, etc and everything that involces that.

ok, anyways sorry for the novel, i'm just VERY happy i hired her! lol

that sounds like a very good deal. Planners seem to be more expensive here, I wonder why that is...

<div>it varies so much. when i emailed people there was a HUGE range of prices but both had great reviews. </div><div>
</div><div>the nice thing about planners is that if they are doing their job right they should save the amount you spent on them during the wedding therefore making it a pretty good deal. mine has already saved me a couple hundred on other vendors. </div>
  • I'm not using one. The reception venue has someone who will coordinate vendors to a degree, but one of our prereq's for vendors is that they've worked with our church and reception venue before, which should reduce my stress level.

Both our Church and Reception venue provide us with day-of planners/coordinators.

I won't be hiring anyone to help with planning though

  • Our venue has a coordinator that handles everything the day of for us so I wont have to worry, he's wonderful and has excellent reviews and is free (I'm sure somewhere in the cost of the venue is his paycheck but w/e lol)

I think if he wasn't there for the day of I would probably look into someone for that, i don't want to be any more stressed than I need to be!

  • We will probably hire a DOC just to take the stress off me and my family

  • I have a planner..well two actually! They're also doing my flowers. I'm very type-A so I wanted to be involved in every aspect...so they're kinda doing something special for me..but then they're taking over completely 2 months before the big day to lower my stress :)

  • I have a Day-of-coordinator. She is provided with the venue. I have emailed her SO many times already about decor, food, transporation, etc. It is really great, and all that I need. I want to do everything else myself, and never ask for help with projects, that just isn't how I operate.

  • I have a planner. Our wedding is in Pittsburgh and were 2 hours away so she contacts and meets with my vendors when Im unable too. She and her husband will also be there on the day of. He is also a planner. He will be with the men while she is with us and then at the reception they will make sure everything stays under control and if any drama comes up its taken care of.
  • no planner....heres my reasons why not

       1. my wedding is going to be fairly casual...so im not toooo worried about details...it will all work out.

       2. too much money for something i can do myself. If i had less time till the wedding then i might consider it, but since i already have my venue/dress/bm's dresses and my parents are looking into and paying for catering...and i still have all summer to look into stuff....im not stressed so theres no point spending the $$

       3. My aunt should have gone into event planning....she coordinates every family gathering and just put together a big memorial service for my grandpa last year and she has offered to help on the day of. Also she has been friends since highschool with the people who own my reception venue and attends the little church where we are having the ceremony, so is able to ask questions and sort out details easily. (and shes retired so has lots of time!!!)

       4. I like being in control of what i want..if i hired a planner...i would spend all day stressing about what they are doing or not doing and it would actually be more time consuming then just doing everything myself.

  • We are not hiring a planner.  We made sure to pick tremendously awesome vendors who have great communication skills and are known for helping to run the show on the wedding day so that things go smoothly, so its kind of a 2-for-1.   If I had the money to hire a day-of coordinator I probably would, but we are already over our original budget as-is.

  • I'm going to have one. I'm hiring one to decorate and place all my DIY items. I don't have a coordinator really at the church or hotel, so I need someone to coordinate with my vendors.
