May 2012 Weddings

Not sure I ever said Hello

Hi May Ladies,
Im not sure if I ever even said hello in this board. My name is Donna. I'm from Long Island NY, originally from NJ. My FI is Marty. I am 30 and he is going to be 29 in 2 weeks.  He is a union iron worker who was working on the new Freedom Towers but hasnt been back to work since August so now he is an engineer working with an industrial washing machine and dryer company which seems to be turning into his career. I am an environmental scientist/hydrologist for an environmental company here on the island.
We are getting married May 27, 2012 at Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead, NY. Our theme, although we are getting married at an aquarium is buttefly fairytale...THe aquarium actually has an exhibit and atrium that will house thousands of butterflies for pictures and such and the venue is located on off of the peconic river which is beautiful in the summer. I chose butterflies as the overall theme because of their symbolism of new life and new beginning which for me pretty much encompasses my life. i have butterfly tattoos, each butterfly symbolizes some big change in life ive gone through. when marty and I first met, it was something that i explained to him and the first thing he ever brought me home was a purple butterfly in a glass frame...I now have dozens of them. every time he sees one he brings it home.

Ive been engaged since August 25 and have been planning and working diligantly.
Marty and i are paying for everything ourselves and have no help which is hard right now since  he has such a huge family and everyone wants to be invited to this thing. i think we have 205 people invited as of now. We have a budget of 30 grand and we are half saved. I already booked the venue, photographer, Florist and DJ. And i have already been looking for dresses and put a downpayment on my Maggie Suttero dress which i am super excited about. I cant wait for it to get here.

Some of you have read about all the issues i have had with the wedding so far. its been so hard since we are trying to make this what we want and i think people just dont understand that. i get a lot of opinions about things that just seem to tick me off because its not what i want..i feel like i have to remind people that this is OUR day and OUR wedding.  I wouldnt say that i am a bridezilla but i am definately the kind of person that doesnt like a lot of excuses and i am very anal retentive. i like to plan and i like things to run as smooth as possible which is why i have almost everything done already...i have gotten a lot of criticism for having everything already in order already and the "why rush" questions but i feel like the more i look at things, the bigger the wedding will become and before i know it i will be 100K in the hole. im trying to avoid that at all costs but have a nice wedding.

I had 2 cousins drop out as bridemaids but one is back in and now my wedding party is complete and things seem to be going good for now..The wedding party is coming out May 21 to get measured for dresses and pick out styles. We are renting a limo and taking them wine tasting also since we happen to live in what they consider wine country out here. I thought it would be a nice gesture to them.

at any rate, its nice to read all the posts and stuff. I am a message board junkie. So expect to see a lot of posts for me.
