But seriously though, I work as an environmental scientist so my job can take my from the office to a construction site or gas station at any moment. I hate wearing my ring in the field when my hands may be in chemicals, dirt, or water so I have a bad habit of taking it off and putting it somewhere "safe" like the coin pocket of my wallet or the change bin in my car. Only problem is, often I forget where I put it because I was in such a rush to get to where I needed to be! I've never misplaced it for more than a couple hours \but I have a feeling one of these days it may just disappear. I made the FI put it on our homeowner's insurancy policy right after he proposed for this reason.

My Mom also lost her engagement ring for almost year. My Dad found it outside near the BBQ (my Mom does the grilling) after the fall leaves and winter snow had piled on top of it. She was heartbroken and had just ordered a replacement one when he came inside with it!
