FB Weirdness/Help Needed

I know FB recently changed their privacy settings. I went in and updated all of mine so that they would stay the same. I am not allowing indexing, only friends can see my profile, I am unsearchable, etc.

But something weird is going on. In the past week, I have gotten more requests to befriend people than I ever have in the total time I've been on FB. These are all people that I marginally know (HS, college, work) but not people that I keep in touch with.

People used to not be able to friend me, I had to friend them, because I was "invisible" on FB. It appeared like I didn't even have one when you searched. Now that isn't the case. Grrr...

What am I doing wrong? I really don't like the constant changes to FB.

Under Privacy Settings > Search you should be able to see who can search for you. For instance, mine is set to "friends of friends" so random people can't find me, only those I share a friend with.

Also, go to settings /> privacy settings and click "edit settings" next to "photo albums". Make sure everything says "Only Friends" INCLUDING "Profile Pictures". I *think* this is the only way to completely hide your picture from coming up in searches now. If you haven't changed this yet, your profile pictures are all available for others to see until you switch this. Major security flaw on Facebooks part.

Hmmm, have you changed your settings in the "search" tab?  There should still be a way to make yourself invisible.  Hover over Settings, then click on Privacy Settings.  Click on Search, then change the settings on "Facebook Search Results."  It sounds like you want it to say "Only Friends" there, right?

I double-checked it all and that is all done from last week when this was first announced.

Somehow, however, FB is still letting people contact me. Everything is only "friends" no "friends of friends" etc. I'm wondering if they put my little picture up under "People You May Know" or something?

It is weird. I go years (literally) with no friend requests and then low and behold, about 12 this week alone.

Huh, that's really strange, so I did some detective work.  I just logged in under FI's account and couldn't find you by searching generally, BUT when I clicked on my own profile from his account and went to "see all friends," your profile showed up alphabetically, picture and all, and I could click on it from there, even in his account.  It only brought up the regular "search" listing that shows up, so I couldn't see personal information, but I could see your profile picture, pages you're a fan of, and your list of friends.  So it's entirely possible that you are now showing up under the "people you may know" feature, when you weren't before.  Facebook, so annoying!

Oh, FB, you sneaky devil, LOL!

I don't think there is any way to fix that, so I guess I am stuck with it for now. Boo, oh well, I will just hit "Ignore" on people.
