Best way to adhere ribbon to paper...

I'm attaching ribbon to my place cards. I'm torn between what type of adhesive to use... I'm thinking double sided tape (those little scrapbooking squares). Would love your advice! :-)

I used some spray adhesive I found at Michael's and it worked better than anything else I tried!  It's definitely messy though.
